OK what am I missing?

Some of you folks may know I have this thing for Stag, it's not all I buy. but it's what makes me look first. A while back I was planning on doing a display of different style knives all in stag and all from one custom maker, that never happened. Over the last couple of years I've just added knives as I found them; production, hand made and customs (some to my design).

Right now I have 19 pieces with three more knives on order. The ones on order are a Boot, Chute & Dagger. I just opened a new PhotoPoint Album "My Stag".

Do me a favor, take a look and tell me what style knife am I missing?

TIA

Looks like a great collection!!! You've got some GORGEOUS stag!!! Does anybody make a stag handled balisong?

I'll have to take a picture for you next weekend. You'll get a kick out of it. My father-in-law has a beautiful stag handled meat carving set. He got it in the black forest while he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. The maker actual had him come in and fit the stag handles to his hands. The craftsmanship is unbelievable. The set has never been used and is in pristine condition.

i'm not sure which style blade you are missing, but the dozier in stag on the cover of the new a.g. russel catalog would fit in beautifully with your collection. Check it out.

Or maybe a stag sunfish.

Boy, it really looks like you have all of your bases covered without going into great detail. Maybe a nice stag friction folder would be a nice compliment to your Ogg bowie.

Of course, on the bizarre side you could opt for a MACHETE! I have never seen a stag handled machete, but your just the man to show me my first :D

i don't know if you're into stilettos, but a nice stag italian-style auto might be nice. and a hubertus lever-action auto in stag -- those are super classy!
peace.
aleX.

Howdy Phil- Where's the stag Stanley knife?
BTW- that stag Big Bear Subhilt is supposed to be mine ;)
Take care Amigo- see you in November.

I did not see a tanto or wharncliff in there, maybe I missed it though.

I caught the wharncliff but I too didn't see a tanto.

Nice collection of stag you have ther Phil.:)
I'm very jealous since I too love stag. I always find myself attracted to the one stag handled knife on the table. I often wonder how many other knives I miss out on seeing/inspecting because of that darn stag stuff!!:)

Great collection, Phil! Some gorgeous stag, some great knives.

About the only thing I see missing is a tactical folder in a more standard shape than the wharncliffe. Suppose that could include or add a tanto, but I can do without tantos quite well.

Have to say that out of the whole bunch the one I like the most is the first Lonewolf you got. The drop point. A really great knife. If I had more $$ I'd ask you to think of me if you ever go to sell it.

I suppose you could think of something like the Bearclaw or Perrin/Emerson finger hole knife. That might be pretty cool, if you could get a good leather sheath to go with it. Afrain stag and Kydex kinda misses the mark somehow.

What you're never going to see in my collection is; #1 A Bali #2 A Tanto #3 A Hawkbill. I don't like them.

Pete, I like Dozier knives a lot, but I'm covered for Hunters right now.

Bastid, I agree I need more slip joints, and as much as I like your collection I'm thinking more of a Trapper pattern with a wharncliff instead of the spey blade.

Blademan, you must have been reading my mind. Max showed me a friction folder he just made last night, it was a beauty with Crown Stag. I don't have anything with crown stag and I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Which is probably why I don't have a Scagel style knife. I told PJ Tomes one night at dinner (at Blade Show) that I didn't care for Scagels and he almost jumeped across the table to strangle me.

Alex, you're right also I need a Classic Switchblade in Stag. Probably the auto I would get first is a very traditional looking bolster release that I saw on Tommy Ware's table at Blade. I could carry that knife EDC and never get busted for carrying an auto.

Mike, refresh my memory how was that subhilt supposed to be yours? That reminds me Jake Evans who switched the scales on that one still owes me a Stag Mini Bowie. That SOB makes me the knife and then loses it in his shop.

Raptor, you caught the Wharncliff on my Art Washburn liner lock.

Bugs, I think I have the Ttactical covered by one of the best Kit Carson's Model #4 in Stellite & Stag. As well as his F4 neck knife in Daryl Miere Damascus and Stag covers me for a smaller knife.

There's a couple of more styles on my Wish List nobody has mentioned yet. Are you guys getting lazy? ;)

How can you not like this:
cb14_1.jpg

Straight back hunter.
Semi-skinner.
Regular upswept skinner blade.

One of those awesome fighter patterns, like a Brend Model 2, double ground, recurve (or Siska or RJ Oddessy, or ...)

Something very oriental...not sure I'd want stag on such, but if you do, Bob Lum would be a great guy to execute for you, his work/fit/finish is great, with or without a guard. |-) That's supposed to be an oriental smiley face. Oh well.

I'd sure go for a 3 or 4 blade slip joint sometime. Terry Davis, maybe Joel Chamblin, Tony Bose or his son, or one of Bailey Bradshaw's great 3V folders w/ premium stag. Yeah...... a good current example, albeit in pearl, and at $825:

I was gonna say kukri, but since that was said, how about a nice San Francisco style bowie. That would be grand for your collection.

Hey Phil, how do you like your Trailmaster?

Phil
you have some very nice stag handle knives
but you really miss the bladedesign that in my corner of the earth
may be the most often seen knife at all, amd almost always with stag:
The Nicker (the name comes from its origin use, to nick, which means to coup de grace animal)

Sorry mine is old and used a lot, (but only for "killing" brotzeit);)

There is also a nice Bradburn NK1 with stag you can see at the link in my signature, and some others - next knives i ordered will have horn (moose) grips. :D

Well guys thanks for the suggestions and the pics. Not2 that first one you showed reminds me of my Ogg Bowie.
As far as bigger knives go on my list would be like Cray said a San Francisco style Bowie, I'd also like a Searles Bowie. I've also been talking to a maker about a folding Bowie. If any of you have seen Harvey Dean's Folding D-guard Bowie, it would be similar to that without the D-guard. For those that haven't picture a knife that when folded the blade extends past the length of the handle and look like a fixed blade. When open you have a full sized Bowie.
For folders I have talked to Murray Sterling about one of his two blade liner locks which is similar to Kershaw's Double Cross, very cool knife. I don't think my collection would be complete without a Gent's folder and for me that spells Interframe, I saw one by Ron Lake that was amazing, but way beyond my means. As far as multiblades go a good friend of mine has won Most Innovative Folder at Blade two years in a row. He also prides himself on his stag. I have three fixed blades by him none in stag, but I know there are aeveral PJ Tomes folders in my future.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep them coming.
