OK What is your prize collection piece?

Here is mine.
mt-hawk.jpg

Only 1 in the world! It is a prototype Ti handled Hawk hand ground by Reece Weiland with a polished button.

My prize before this was the only Automatic knife Gil Hibben ever made. Sold it for $10,000! What a sucker

Well mine is a bit more modest from a different time, but I wouldnt trade you! Its my MSA Gladestone, Mich 8" Ideal, which is in mint condition. It looks like a knife that I just bought! At a NKCA last year I was offerd $1800.cash. It was also given to me by my late Great Uncle.

A Tony Bose stag 2 blade trapper I bought from Tony 9 years ago when nobody knew who he was.He sent it to me and said if I liked it to mail him a check.I give him hell about it every Blade Show.

Gene Osborn took some BG-42 and ebony, and turned my design into reality.
Serial #001.
I just received it last week and Gary Alvis, who did many covers for Fighting Knives, took the photo.
I call it "The Judge."

Well, I don't "collect". Got a lot of knives, though.
Prize ? Probably the 7in blade primitive bowie Mel Sorg made for me.
Geez, Mike .....how can you sell stuff like that ?
And so cheaply

This would have to be my favorite! It was the first double edge I ever ground. If this knife could talk, you would hear some foul language. I will never forget how hard it was keeping the grindlines straight and even! I could never sell it....
It sleeps in the fancy leather sheath in the picture and rides in a new Kydex sheath I recently made for it. The new Kydex sheath has made it possible for me to carry often and that I do!

Daniel Winkler belt knife hand forged from file steel. 5" dark blued blade. Tapered tang. Distal taper. Fully file worked in unusual pattern from butt to point. Gorgeous walnut burl scales. Cool little forged curly thingamabob. Feels even better in my hand than it looks. Really amazing raw hide decorated sheath by Karen shook with fringe, beads and horse hair tassles. I saw a picture of some of Daniels knives eight years ago and it was love at first sight. It took seven more years before I could buy one. I like every knife by Mr. Winkler that I have seen. I wish I could buy Everything he makes.

Neil, That is a really nice knife. I like you skeletonized designs as well.

I don't have a good picture tonight, but my Genovese sub-hilt will be up tomorrow.

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

My wife just informed me that calling the blade I posted above "The Judge" sounds stupid.
I patterned it after the smallest sword in the bible, the sword of Ehud, a judge from the tribe of Benjamin.
He used it to kill Eglon, king of the Moabites.
If you wanted to, you could read about it in Judges 3:16.
James Mattis has a similar sword of Ehud, which he designed and finished himself, on his site.
I apologize for not having the URL.
Anyway, I should have called the blade "The Sword of Ehud."

Mine is a traditional kriss blade, custom of course. The maker needed 8 years to finish my piece. The kriss has some rare stones, but they are only embelishment. Price: unknown.

Paracelsus:

can you post a pix of your baby and its sheath? i've only recently discovered Karen's work, and just reading the description of what you have caused a puddle of drool to form on my keyboard...

and please don't buy everything mr. winkler makes...leave some for the rest of us who are still saving up for our Prize Blade

Mine is an 19th century Kukri featuring a classic European stag handle and cross guard (ala 19th century hunting hanger). Dollar value is moderate, but I have never seen another like it. What an interesting blend of cultures. I guess this is why the average age of a piece in my collection is 37 years

Eight years !!
And you don't know the price ?

You are the backbone of the greedy part of the Custom knife industry.

You should be bloody well ashamed.
You are screwing it up for the rest of us.

of course.....but only "just"

Maybe I'm cheating here already, but mine is actually 2 knives. http://www.angelfire.com/mn/madpoet/images/campset1.jpg
(hope I made this link thing work)
Brian,
Glad to see another 'Madpoet' listed in this thread.
These are special to me because Mel and I spent alot of time collaborating (which is another word for 'a skilled craftsman talking me out of stupid ideas') Also, because I know of no other "camp set" made by Mel.

Brian,

I don't dare fixing a price on my kriss, it is just so priceless to me. You can safely say that it was made with sweat, blood and tears
smile.gif
. It took more than 7 years to finish the blade alone (laminated steel if you ask me, but the ingredients are known to the maker alone). If one layer screwed up, they have to redo the blade all over again. FYI: a genuine kriss maker will only make a maximum of 3-4 blades at any given time. That is why it is very difficult to find kriss makers nowadays. If you're familiar with krisses and their makers, you'll know what I'm talking about. And yeah, the waiting time was killing me

what swearing ?
wouldn't that contaminate the process.
Not a maker, myself.....but i always thought nice vibes had to go into a blade ??

If there were not people like you (gullible buyers of over-priced knives) , they wouldn't need people like me (poverty stricken, jealous lusters after over-priced knives)
