Okapi Knives

I suspect these are prime fodder for modification, similarly to our beloved Opinels, which is why I've bought two of them. I have a few nice pieces of wood hanging around that are begging to be used for such a project.

Hi,

Fun knives. I like the stars and moons inlays. And as has been said, more robust than you might think. I have a few that I enjoy on occasion. I've carried the sheep's foot a bit. and the middle one with the open blade has been a favorite.

Nice, thanks for sharing your collection, I only have the two examples shown in the OP.

Great thread, thank you guys for more information on these knives  I'm like yobbos, I ended up with a Kudu after I 'discovered' the ring lock pattern somewhere while searching Google. I bought it on a whim, because the kudu horn is part of Scouting's Wood Badge lore, Baden-Powell used a the horn to call his students on the early Wood Badge courses at Brownsea Island, the horn came back from his experiences fighting in the Boer War. So did the wooden beads given out for completing the course, but I digress.
The Kudu is just too big for daily use, and I even got funny looks when I got it out to slice up vegetables at a Scout camping trip. A smaller Okapi would be nice for my collection, a slipjoint even better.

I bought several of the locking blade Okapis at the bazaars in an-Najaf, Iraq. I still have one that keeps a pretty darn good edge, and is surprisingly robust for a $5 knife. I gave the rest of them away as gifts to family and friends, and now I wish I'd bought about 20 more of the darn things. Can't beat them for the money, and they're very interesting blades, to boot.

I got one today at the bazaar in F.Y.R.O.M for 2€..very nice very stiff !!for sure not a one Hand knife..
Next time the bigger Modells...
