Okay, Chris - how about up, down, left, right?

After my Umnumzaan opened in my pocket today and drew blood, it reminded me that I don't like for knives to open in my pocket and draw blood. :)

Now, granted, I carry in my left front pocket because I have a firearm in my right front, so the blade faces forward in my pocket. Were it in my right pocket, I could slide the knife all of the way to the back of the pocket, and the blade would have a hard time falling open.

So Chris - with all of your attention to detail, how about add that little detail of a 4-way clip? Or even a 2-way?

Btw, this is not the first time my Umnumzaan has drawn blood while still in my pocket. The first time, I stuck my hand in there and was able to slice my finger on the tip of the closed blade. There's another little detail for you to work on.

I like my CRKs, but come on Chris! This is getting painful. :)

That sucks, I feel your pain. That happened to me with my bm 943 in my left front pocket. I stuck my hand in and was like, "that feels weird, What is that? Ohh my knife blade" Yeah not fun.

I feel your pain, but please only tip up/ down, left and right if ordered that way. With the exception of the umnum. I have a 21 large. Huge difference between the two with the detent strength and style. The 21 is not possible to open in my pocket. I would not be happy if my knife had a bunch of extra milling and holes. Not at all.

As an option ,it would be more than fair to choose what you would like.

Just to keep it real, maybe I'm just being a crybaby. A manly man would ignore that floppy, partially attached bit of flesh on the end of his finger.

First step is acceptance. Just kidding.

I have sliced my finger through the back of the handle while in my pocket. My middle finger pressed and slid down the handle as it was in my pocket. The edge of the blade is so close to the back of the handle on the Seb, especially the 25. Not fun but I learned my lesson, which is the knife is the boss and you better watch out. It does allow a lot of blade in a slim profile though.

P.s. A little super glue will fix you right up.

It's almost like an occupational hazard I gladly accept. Heck, whenever anyone sees me with a bandage, freshly applied superglue, etc., first thing asked is "what knife did you cut yourself with this time?"

I would hate to see unneeded holes on a CRK scale, and am glad we don't have to worry about that happening.

Always carry with the spine of the blade against the pants leg seam. Or at least thats the only way I'll carry. If you must carry in the left pocket maybe you could get someone to drill clip holes, or carry a left handed 21. The detent is also pretty strong on the 21 and I can't imagine it coming open even if carried in the wrong pocket, though I wouldn't try it myself.

Sorry you cut yourself and hope it wasn't to bad.

I have never had that happen with a CRK and don't hear of it often if at all. I have only had it happed with Emerson folders and on 2 different knives. What is it you're doing to have the blade overcome the detent, dancing all over the place or something ? I suggest you give the pivot a bit of a tighten and see if that holds the blade in place better for you.

As you are all very much aware I seldom carry a knife.. a firearm always.. and the Umnumzaan is my favorite CRK. I have to agree with most of my fellow CRK lovers, I am very sorry that you suffered what must have been a very painful cut!! But to change a design that has served nearly everyone well for over two decades because someone suffered a cut which was and I mean no offense here either caused by operator error or possibly even a defective or modified detent sounds a bit extreme IMHO of course.
All the best, Dave

I agree with you that options would be nice, but I also agree with Bella that it should be a request. I don't want to see a bunch of extra holes in the scales like my delica when I take out my Sebenza!
As for the cuts, that is not fun but you should carry in a pouch if you are going to carry in your left pocket- or get a lefty version!
Happy healing:)

My first thought was to get a left handed model, but if you aren't a southpaw it might become unlocked during use maybe? I definitely don't want any extra holes in the scales of mine. Maybe you could have someone tap it for you?

Carrying left rear pocket uses the same clip position as right front and the spine is held against the outside seam, just an option to think about.

I always carry my Zaan in my front left pocket and I'm right handed, never had an issue. Like others have said, maybe the detent isn't holding correctly. Sorry for your injury but I would hate to see the design changed because of one possible out of adjustment knife. I have also carried in my left rear pocket as mentioned protects the blade, maybe that could be an option for you as well. Hope you get it figured out but I would look at your knife very closely first.

Sorry to hear.
Have you considered useing a leather slip-sheath?
I carry my lg Sebie in a belth sheath.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

These things will happen, with a tip up in the left pocket. The right pocket is much safer. I highly doubt Chris is going to change the design for a few users-his business plan works on not making a lot of different knives. My only suggestion would be to go to a sheath(many great makers and some beautiful stuff) or you may just need to add some extra care when reaching for the knife.

I don't carry it without leather pouch on my belt. No prob so far + empty pockets for other things. Take care!

I'm embarrassed to confess that I cut my finger tip with my new Ti-Lock shortly after I opened the package. I barely touched the blade with my index finger tip as I experimented with opening the knife efficiently, but that was enough to cut my finger tip. The cut was painless at first since the knife was so sharp, and for a moment I couldn't figure out why my finger was bleeding! The cut was more like a paper cut than a deep slice, fortunately.

As you might guess, I'm new to knife collecting and this is my first Chris Reeve knife. I am amazed at the quality, the fine finishing, and the surprising balance of this technically interesting knife. I really look forward to acquiring a large Sebenza soon. In the meantime, I am enjoying reviewing the photos of the spectacular CRK knives and collections so many members of this forum have posted.
