A while back I found my father's pocket knife, a Schrade 108OT Old Timer. My dad died almost 50 years ago and his knife had been misplaced since that time. I remember him using it for virtually all cutting chores but my memory failed as to what knife it was. I guess when kids grow up they remember things being larger than they actually were. The 108OT has a closed length of only 2 7/8". It seemed bigger to me.
Anyway, I've read the positive posts about the Peanut but it always seemed a bit on the small side to me. But fiddling around with my dad's old knife got me to thinking about how a small knife worked so well for him and how it might work for me as well. So earlier this month, I bought a couple of smaller knives. I found I kind of liked them, especially the two-blade Case Medium Jack. Then I took the plunge and bought the lowest priced Case Peanut I could find--a jigged brown synthetic, "as ground" stainless model. I just got it yesterday and I've been playing around with it since then. But I also had a flare up of arthritis in joint at the base of my right thumb yesterday that makes it hard to manipulate objects, especially small objects. Unfortunately that means I'm kind of limited in my ability to appreciate the Peanut right now.
I can see the appeal of the Peanut. Since I almost always carry a medium to large modern folder along with a traditional, carrying a smaller slipjoint makes sense. Now, if my joints will cooperate, I might warm up to the little 'Nut quite a bit. I can certainly see a place for it in my standard rotation.
