Whatever you do just be sure to post some "after" pics too!
I think I'd stick with the stacked leather washers too. I saw a thread recently on someone making those or having them available but I can't remember where.
I tried twisting the remaining leather to see how tight it was...several of the washers crumpled...lol. Can we say massive dry rot? At any rate I broke the rest off...yes broke, not cut...and found some heavy rust scaling under the leather.
It cleans easily tho and I will get rid of all the rust before adding the new handle.
I have a warthog tusk, I may make spacers out of some of it...I'll know better when I get the stag in hand as far as what will work. Stag like that Marble takes years to develope that butter yellow tho...
Well...I think there was a mix up in the stag, the piece I received is far nicer than the one I ordered...lol. The size is perfect in diameter and I will have couple inches left over.
In keeping with the low budget nature of the project, I would be tempted to scrounge up some scrap material and do something like a WWII theater knife.
