It sounded like these were to be slowly available right about now, but I talked with someone at SFO today and he sounded like they weren't expecting for a while still.

Please forgive my ignorance and poor memory.

Are both the pictured knives the Temperance Jr? Are both blade styles to be offered for both the Temperance and the Jr. Or are we only getting the Jr at first?

Also, which lock is the Temperance getting? The Compression or the Phantom? I know I read something about that lock and some near future production of several knives, but that was a few hours ago.

Also, the color. Is that the only color anticipated for the Temperance Jr? Is it aluminum?

All questions, no answers, I remain,

Shmackey,

It's part of the MBC line and the handles are sculpted for a more secure grip. Imagine gripping some silly putty in your fist and letting it mold around your fingers. Looks pretty secure to me.

Bugs,
the Temperance series folders will come in both blade styles and will have the compression lock.
Pictured are the Jr.s Sal said the fate of the larger versions will depend on the success of the jr.s.
And unfortunately, the handles will be the dull green color(which I don't have a problem with on utility style models, but not on MBC/tac models)for now, hopefully a more 'classic' color will be applied in future models. Handle material is G-10. I believe the fixed blade will be FRN.

Don't knock the elevated sculpts on the handles, I've handled the proto and it is excellent. You sacrifice a little slimline profile in exchange for alot of grip security.

The Lil' Temperance is in production now and is expected to begin shipping mid/end-August. I checked with manufacturing and they're coming out in small batches (25-50 at a time). As you know the first 200 go to fulfill collector numbers, at the rate they are leaving manufacturing now all 200 collectors will not get their C69s at the same time. I know it's been long in coming, thanks for your patience. Think Of The Children....great description with the silly putty thing, that's exactly what it feels like!

Carlos, thanks for the heads-up on these! Terr, I'm definitely looking forward to getting a tactical Calypso Jr. :) Let's keep our eyes open, and when they hit streets, let everyone know.

Joe

Thanks, Ken. I think I got it now. Surprised to learn those handles are G-10.

Have to say I do like the second one that looks like the Calypso Jr. The other one doesn't do much for me. Kind of reminds me of the Dyad PE, only much shorter/more squat.

Must be pretty light weight w/G-10 handles, and no liners needed. Does sound pretty tactical.

No problem Bugs,
BTW, they have dual nested liners in the handles. When I held/moved the proto around, it was suprisingly light. Some might actually have to get used to the feather weight for something that does look fairly chunky.

For my particular training, the trailing/rhino point is definitely my preference

Thanx for the post Carlos and thanx for the info, Ken, Joyce.

The Lil'Temperance is kind of a "pet project tester" for me. Construction will be top quality, but production will be limited and the model is likely to change with each production run. The handle material is currently an ugly green G10. (The trainer will be red G10) The appearance is not so menacing as black would be. "Tactical is as Tactical does, not as tactical appears". This is a carry knife albeit a chunky handful. A 3" blade is legal almost anywhere. The lock is MBC rated. The blade material on the first run is CPM-440V (S60V). The blade material for the 2nd run will more than likely be BG42. Handle colors and materials will probably vary as well. Runs are 1200 pieces with 200 pieces per month being produced. First run will split the two blade shapes in number. Future runs will depend on the ELU's preference for blade shape. Early pieces will be plain edged, serrated versions are planned as well.

This model will more than likely not "hit the streets" as the volume scheduled is quite small.

Here's one vote in favour of the "ugly green" scales.

BTW Sal, instead of calling the upswept blade a rhino horn, why not call it a "persian." It always reminds me of a jambiya, albeit a flat-ground one.

Dumb question: How the heck do I buy one? Does this mean no dealers? Are they on the Spyderco site? I'm trying very hard to give you my hard-earned money here :)

Heh, I have the same question! I have some dealers making discrete inquiries on my behalf, what a bummer if they all come back empty-handed. I know this knife will be popular among the internet-based knife fans, looking forward to seeing how it does generally. The apperance is a little unrefined, which is a don't-care for me. I get the feeling we'll eventually see a slicked-up version of some sort hit the streets.

Can't wait to get my hands on the "Calypso jr" style blade. This is the first knife that I have been excited about in quite a while. Definately a must purchase. It covers so many things that I have been looking for in a 3" blade it approachs perfection for my needs. The OD green is a great choice in my opinion. If anyone gets any leads on dealers who will have access to these please shoot me an email.

The Spyderco family never fails to impress!

You should be able to order them through your regular dealer. They'll have to order them from us. It might be a few months to catch up. They might be available in stores if the dealers have already ordered them.

The collectors will be getting a plain edge version of the "leaf/spear" (Calypso style) shape.

Carlos, actually its a "trailing point" The Rhino horn was more descriptive.

Hi Sal,

Thanks for clarifying. One thing I've noticed is that on this forum, which is dominated by utility users, the Calypso style seems to garner the most interest. On the MBC forum however, everyone seems more interested in the trailing point (as am I). Do you think it possible that both variations might continue to split the future runs?
