Okay, who scored 98's?

It appears that EKI still has 4 of the 98 Commanders available here http://www.hometown.aol.com/eknives/eknives.html

I received #28 yesterday, and she's sweeeet! The action is slick as ice, and lock-up is very solid. The blade itself is wicked sharp. I'd post pics, but my wife has the digital camera and she won't be back until early next week. But I'll post pics then.

So who else grabbed the early 98's from EKI?

I've gotta admit, this #28 arrived in an UNcrushed Emerson box, so it COULD be a counterfeit box,......but the 98 is the real deal! :D

This piece instantly becomes a daily carry for me, and joins my Ryan Biohazard M1 and MT UT6 as MUST HAVE daily carries.

So again, who else scored the EKI offered 98's?

John, go ahead and brag about #10. :D

BTW, let me add a few more 98 comments here.

The 98's SCREAM Specwar. I've got a 98 in the safe, in addition to #28 that I've just acquired, and for some reason these 98's just feel much more fluid and capable than my 2000. Don't get me wrong; my 2000 is an absolute workhorse, and it's entirely reliable, but the 98's just feel so much more.......fightable,...and substantial.

They fill the hand better. They instill more confidence in the hands of the user. They wave harder and lock up more intensely. They are the epitomy of the words Tactical Folder.

I had the pleasure of handling the CQC8 and CQC9 at Blade West, and I can honestly say that the 98's are just more slick from a user standpoint. And they're certainly a hell of alot more affordable than the above mentioned CQC's.

Ernie and Company, you guys clearly outdid yourselves with the 98's, and I thank you immensely.

Get one, and it will become permanent for you. Just get one, and you'll understand the hype. I promise. There's little else to say. :)

As far as being excited and enthusiastic about a folding knife is concerned, there was nothing like the Summer of 1998. I'll never have that feeling again about a folder. When a lightbulb comes on over your head, an awakening, you don't often forget it.

How sweet it would be...to feel that way again about a product that bends in the middle.

Eric- An "uncrushed" Emerson box !!!
This may be the rarest of the rare, please post pictures of the box for posterity !!!!!
Nice score by the way :)
Donald :)

I WANT one, I just can't f-ing AFFORD one right now! Dammit!! This always seems to happen to me.... hey Eric - you wouldn't want to sell that one eventually, would ya?? :D

Man, it gives me chills when 3 true friends post at once.

Don, it is indeed time for us to speak via phone again. E-mail with a good time, and the dime is on me.

Donald, the box is absolutely uncrushed. We need to talk about the current Steve Ryan climate via phone. E-mail me and we'll find a time to get real.

Chris, when you feel the need for a 98, we'll certainly find one for you.

And lastly,...John Hollister. John and I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone together tonight. Information was exchanged and a bond was even further strengthened.

The people mentioned above are some of the finest examples of why I'm putting together the Suspect Network.

In this day and age, you will find no better people than those right here. Your fellow Suspects are the finest friends available. Spend time with them conversing, be it phone or e-mail. You will learn much, and you will gain much.

Ssupect Network; it happens soon. :)

I did score #010. :D It'll go nice with my Green-T SOCFK #010.

I have a couple of '98 carry Commanders. Plus the '98 Satin in my collection, but I lacked a Black-T "collector". (Hilton got the one I had :( ;)) Man am I tickled to get another one.

As I ponder the Suspect bonds that are taking place, let me also mention that Larry, Sniper (yet another Don), Seth , Hilton, Bob, Ed, Jonas, Oliver, Ken, and plenty of others have been a pleasure to associate with. The friendships that form here are pure magic. I welcome those in the future. Thanks, guys, for being.....Suspects. We are a unique group,....and we are friends.

I picked up #25 but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm looking at my EDC 98 Commander #310 and it's still un-freaking believable. It shows wear and I thought I better jump at the chance to own one before the opportunity passes away.

When I do recieve it I will put aside my Waved-7 on my left and carry #310 on my left side and the newer #25 on my right.

I wanted one of the satin ones, to match the one I have in my safe, but just wasn't fast enough to snatch one up.

Oh and Eric about your comments on the '98 screaming SPECWAR! You are so right! The very first EKI knife I recieved was this Commander #310. Shortly after that I recieved a ES1-M and Prototype waved CQC8. I remeber opening the box to the ES1-M and being delighted for the first couple seconds then kinda disappointed. Other than the size of the blade it was almost identical to my 98 commander! I felt a little ripped off :(

But then it hit me. It wasn't the ES1-M being a lesser knife! It was the '98 Commander that was an EXCELLENT knife in itself! Both were built sturdy and to be able to withstand abuse and I had gotten used to the fact that I was carrying the Commander, I subliminally thought it was just an "ordinary production" knife. Then I recieved the ES1-M and thought it had the same feeling as the "ordinary production" knife. But when I pick up OTHER "ordinary production" knives, I soon realized that the EKI '98 Commanders are faaaaaaaar from "ordinary production" knives. Extraordinary production knives isn't even a deserving title to put on these brutal beauties.

But I know exactly what you mean when you started on those comments Eric. Because I too have felt that feeling.

These are awesome tools.

Ross T.

Ross,....yes,...exactly, my friend.

4 of the 98's are left. Someone PLEASE buy them before I feel forced to buy another one or two. Guys,...you just can't get better than a brand new 98 direct from EKI. If you have a 98 already, then no explanation is needed. But if you're a Suspect without a 98,...then it's a MUST. How many ways do we have to say it? These may be marked EKI,....but damn,....they're Specwars. John and I were talking about this earlier tonight; Who do you think ground these early 98 blades? You know who. So get one, and be happy, damnit! They're oh-so-slick! People are paying $2000+ for 8's and 9's, but I assure you that these 98's are equally as beefy and smooth, if not more so.

Ross, these are damn near the exact words Eric and I used on the phone earlier.

Everyone else. Remembering that I get nothing out of this deal, matter of fact, if you do the research you'll find that I was the one that started the quest for the '98s. Pointing out the differences just made my quest that much harder.

As Eric pointed out, if you don't have one, jump on one! Your gonna dig it.

Ohhhh, the 98's.....:D

Mine is in my pocket right now, #431. Solid as a got-damn TANK!! The pivot moves like a bank vault door, a sensation of weight and power moving with unnatural, glassy ease. Gotta sharpen it tonight, as a matter of fact....

Got to see sniperboy's satin '98 at TAD...niiiiiiiiice.....

Guys,

I've been out of touch for about a week, and just got back from a Tampa Florida trip.

I got that black #24. Don't have it yet but it's on the way. Derek also was going to send me the new Mini Commander with it, but I decided to wait on a satin one rather than get one hot off the assembly line.

This takes on a new dimension for me but I can assure you that with all the customs I own, the 98 Commander doesn't lack over any of them. (Well, now maybe the pre-tacticals are still in that "other" zone."

I am the proud owner of Satin#103 :D and BT#011 should be in my hands tomorrow. As you can tell from the previous posts, these are really Exceptional.

My first Emerson and favorite carry is a Micarta '98 Commander that I got from JohnH. What a way to start out! So solid! I've been hooked ever since...Thanks John.

Eric - thank yopu for the kind words. I have come to realize during my time here that you guys, though I have never met any of the Suspects in person, have become very close friends. I trust your judgement, and I trust you as people. Think about that for a second - that we (for I know I'm not alone in feeling this way) could completely trust people we've never met before, people known only from words on a screen (though that will change soon. :D), and care about them enough to check in with them when something happens in the areas that they live in, or near, to swap stories with them, to offer accomodations, to help them finacially in times of need.... That is truely a special thing, and I'm proud to say I'm involved with it, and proud to call all of you my friends. :)

Now, as for these damn '98s, I think they'll be gone before I can get the friggin' cash up for one. Eric, you'll be the first guy I talk to when I'm able to buy one - who knows? We'll see what magic you can work. I wanted a satin originally. Still do, but I was fantasizing, since, at the time, only black-T models were available, that I'd (once I GOT one), would use a dremel to take the black off of the bevels, and leave it on the flats of the blade. I think that would look VERY cool. You can see an illusionary version of what I mean when you look at the ESM-1 and CM-1 pics in the gallery. The blades are satin, but the what the pic is shot, it looks like the flats are black. Ahhh, to dream. Well, I'll get one eventually, I'm sure. :D
