OKCA Review

WOW Bruce:eek::eek:

It is EASY to see why that bowie won Best in Show! That is simply stunning.

Thanks for posting it.

Peter

This was my first show as a table holder. I had a lot of fun and got to meet some really great people. No knife sales but I did take two orders and I sold a couple of necklaces. I only brought one finished knife and two that were halfway done so I wasn't too concerned about selling anything :D

I had a lot of fun talking to Dave and Bruce and a whole bunch of other really talented guys. The advice I got from more experienced makers was worth the whole trip.

Our own Jason Magruder won Best New Maker and Raymond Richards won Best Hand Forged. Maybe they will post pictures of them. Congrats again Jason and Raymond!
Bill Burke...Best Miniture
Al Warren...Best Hunter/Utility
Who am I missing? Dang memory.

Here's mine. This was actually an order and the day before I finished it the customer vanished.

Wow, sounds like a great show (and Bruce that Bowie is AMAZING!)

I though about coming to this one (mostly to see Ray Richards knives), all the way from Houston, but decided to do Bladewest instead --- hope i made the right choice.

Glad you guys had fun

If you come up for Blade West, I have a BBQ at my home for Bladeforums members during the weekend of the show. Usually on Saturday night.

Scott, I had a good time last year at your gathering! Make sure you give xaman directions so he can guide us both there even though he live outside of Houston. I'd get lost in your neighborhood on my own. :D To bad you couldn't make to OKCA this year. I'm still standing behind my prediction that next years OKCA show will be even better.

I'm hoping to be in a different house by then. My wife and I are getting our home ready to put on the market. Our goals are to have the master bedroom on the main floor and a larger shop! One of our criteria for a new house is a shop that has room for a power hammer or press!!

Of course the BBQ will be going and the food and drink will be plentiful...

THANKS --- sounds like a great time

What's the dress code? I'm not worried about myself, but really just asking for Raymond...

:D

The Oregon Knife Show again was a well organized and friendly staffed event. After 15 years of participation it is getting to be a room filled with friends. There were some beautiful knives in the room. Bruces bowie was a very elegant piece. Daves damascus bowie was a very innovative piece. Being stuck at a table it was hard to find time to see many of the the great pieces in the room.

My son Martin demonstrated his flintknapping skill for the 12th year to a good crowd. The show is pretty much a tradition for Martin and I.

I can assure you the Ray was dressed appropriately at the show...Take Care...Ed

Thanks ED And your right there is no way to visit with friends see all the knives find all the cool handle stuff you need and sit at your table. but it was fun to try. and I could be wrong but I think there was more raw wood there then I had ever sean. and I have ben kicking myself all day for passing on the tusk I saw. but it was pricey and I was not sure I could make it work.

It was a handle buyers dream come true there. I bought a 12" fossilized walrus tusk for $100. It will make two handles. Also scored some great spalted Koa from Steve Hughes and an outrageously pretty piece of almost black spalted maple from Mike Turber.

That sounds nice --- hope we get to see it on something special soon

Bruce, I spent around $300.00 on fossilized walrus tusk. A first for me. Is the walrus in the deer family?

What would we do without friends???????

At the show?

Focus on the business of selling knives, perhaps?

Something that Dennis never, ever got a grip on.

The show USED to be stellar, really.....automatic knifemakers from all over the country would come, and so would their collectors...kept the show from being so......inbred is a word that comes to mind(hateful, but true)....and I like an awful lot of people in that room, you all know it.

Dave, I wouldn't have really called this a review, it is more of a vignette. Line breaks for paragraphs would be nice....you are writing like you speak, it is hard to follow a bit....bolds and italics also help.

Congratulations, you deserve the sales and the kudos, you are shaping up into a fine knifemaker.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

thanks for the write up Dave. And ththank you Bruce for the mention.

Don't have a picture of the Mini but will see if I can get a decent one taken if anyone would care to see it.
