I saw those - they were very nice.

It was great to see everybody. I got to meet a few new people too.

Tom Ferry and I drove down together on Friday morning and ended up staying till it was almost closing time on Saturday.

Thumbs up to Mike Ludeman and the Bybee family for bringing in so much killer wood that I just couldn't stop buying it.

Guys, Randy Morgan is one of the coolest f'ers you'll meet at a show. It's a kick every time I see him. Every time I bs with him at a show I learn something and laugh too. Look him up the next time he's kickn' it at a show...it shouldn't be hard to find him. Especially at BACKA, since he's el Presidente. If you're talking to Randy, Jeff Pelz won't be far away either. Jeff puts the details of the show together (in Palo Alto). Both of these men are good people, give em a shout when they're around.

Bruce Bump is a glutton for punishment! I got to look over the project he has on his table and all I can say....is he is definitely pushing the envelope in this craft! Good to see you buddy.

Todd and Tanya Begg...one of the funniest couples in knifemaking. They let us crach at their motel Friday night....THANKS GUYS!!!

Scoot Cook is one of the nicest and easiest to talk to makers around. Not to mention he makes beautiful knives that are near flawless. Just go look at a Lochsa and it will blow your mind.

Big Congratulations to Jon Christensen for BEST Damascus, Wade Colter for Best Bowie, Ray Richards for Best Hand-forged, Michael Bell for Best of Show, Joes Olson for Best Art, Bill Ruple for Best Folder. I missed the name of the best new maker, but it was a really nice Sheffiled style bowie! Who did I miss?

Friday night dinner at the RoadHouse. I think we scared the folks at the restaurant. What the hell would you think if you were a waitress and you look out the door and there is this group of knife folks, and they ALL want to sit together?

Mike and Audra Draper
Jon Christensen and Ed Caffrey
Todd, Tanya, and Josh Begg
Mitch Lum
Dan O'Malley and his new photographer Casandra
Mark from Honolulu (sorry dude, I'm blanking on your last name)
Chuck, Brenda, and Jessica Bybee
Tom Ferry and me

The girl at the door actually said she was hoping for lighting to strike and the power to go out!!! HAHAHAHAHAA

You should have seen it when Audra Draper tossed my peanuts right at the door. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :D I'm going to get smacked for that one ;)

So many good folks, too little time to enjoy everybody.

You know, when I first had a table at this show 4 years ago and was totally new to the knife scene I thought shows were all about having knives there and making money. Boy was I wrong. Shows are about the people, the comraderie, the laughs, the memories...all the lie swapping. Good people, good times....

Thanks everybody.

Nick

ps- this is by no means a total recap and list of everybody I got to enjoy at the show, just some random thoughts about the week-end... :)

Too many good people and knives, way too little time. Nick and Nifrand - sorry not to have run into you in the three days we attended the show. I met many great knifemakers and knifeknutts.

Nifrand, those Deans were choice. I took a picture of them, but it does not do them justice.

Thanks to everybody that came by to visit me at the show. Too many to list! Knifemakers and collectors are the best people on earth. What a grand family Im a part of. :)
Bruce,
Ditto, what you said is a fact!
I spent all my cash by 10AM Fri. morning. The bad news is I could not resist those insidious dealers who take plastic and I have put myself in some serious debt. There is just so much great stuff and people in Eugene.
Just got home today after a great weeks vacation and the show. This is what keeps me going! My next carrot is the NWKC show in Oct., it's really coming together and should be a great show. And, there'll be a lounge there that will need to be closed down :)
Hope I see the lot of you there!

I know what you mean about the plastic. I bought a pair of topaz blue ivory scales for $200. I couldnt resist.

I bought a nice piece of female walrus ivory, 3 Knives annual books, and a pair of sheep horn scales which are *huge*, and very thick, as opposed to most. They would accommodate any large knife.

Those two Deans are AWESOME! They remind me a bit of Fisk's Arkansas Camp Knife - one of my all-time favorite big knives. Congrats Randy! And thanks to Jeff for the pic and to all for the great reports.

Cheers,

Roger
