Hey, I was wondering what you guys think of Olamic Cutlery's Damascus. Has anyone used their knives before? What do you think of their Damascus steel? I read that unlike many Damascus steels, or steels in general, their Damascus contains both molybdenum and vanadium. When I heard those two words, I immediately thought of Aogami Super Blue. How do you think their Ddamascus compares to super blue? After all, I feel that when those two elements go into a knife, the results are impeccable.

I looked up the website, and the whole deal is that they have molybdenum and vanadium together in the damascus to create the best steel possible. It sounds like hype to me. The post sounds fine and normal until the last sentence. that just sounds either like blatant fanboyism or marketing speak. Just my 2 cents.

Hi, I'm David and new to the forum. I said all that because super blue is my favorite knife steel. I've never used his damascus and I was wondering if it could be as good as super blue. What do you think?

Welcome to Shop Talk. Filling in your profile will be helpful.

As to your question, that is basically like saying:
"My favorite wood is pine. Do you think a pine 2X4 will be comparable to pine plywood?"

Apples and oranges.

I wouldn't say that Mo and V make a superior steel....just a good steel. There are many good steels.
