Old Buck knives VS new Buck Knives

mnblade- I'm going to order a 110 with s30v and elk scales they are pricey but I just traded a shotgun for a 1972 Puma Game Warden, so the 110 wont be my most expensive knife.

mnblade- I have my eye on something in the custom shop. Waiting till my wife does something outlandish so I can order it without grief. She is overdue for something outlandish

I just typed a review that made A Tale of Two Cities look like a See Pug Run story and when I hit post quick reply is played Harry Houdini and now Jimmy Hoffa is reading it.....nice

Got in the new 110. The thing is almost identical in every way to the 4 dot. The only thing i can clearly see is the macassar ebony diamondwood scales. I'm not crazy about the veneer but they claim its stronger. Ebony is a very slow growing tree and has been protected in parts of Africa to my understanding. No since in cutting down a 300 year old tree so I can have a darker wood. The packaging indicated the Bos cryogenic treatment. I was surprised the knife went through the process being it was only $27.00 I'm going to say that with the Bos process and the price of a new one you might be better off to buy brand new. I'f you could find an older 2 dot 3 dot or 4 dot under the price of a brand new one than it might be worth it. Unless a guy is dead set on a particular era of knife. The leather scabbard was a lot lite the old ones with the exception of the belt loop which is sewn at top and bottom. The old ones were riveted on top and sewn at bottom. The blade was marked with a 2016 stamp not the Idaho or 50 year stamp. Its was also marked USA which was a thrill since I saw a stockman the other day marked China. The think was a 4 dot made over with a 2016 stamp. I was very very happy. Looks like along with Zippo, Buck knives have remained true in the quality control department as far as the 110. Its nice to know you can buy something that lasts 40-50 years still without paying over 100 dollars

Brian, All Buck knives made in Idaho get the Paul Bos heat treatment. They may have this etched on or may not. But they get it. The Stockman's you mentioned, marked China are model 374's or so and made under the foreign contract. Buck then makes another model Stockman pattern in house. The 301 and it has U.S.A. on it. I know It's confusing. DM

I only own newer BUCK knives (Made in Idaho) and I am very, very happy with my knives.

I like my two kitchen paring knives from BUCK too.
