*Please read before claiming and kindly keep the thread free of unrelated comments and general chatter. Thank you.

Here's a Carothers Field Knife aka CPK-FK made from Nathan's 3V HT protocol (this is not the later D3V version!) and it comes with BLK/Orange G10 handle scales with the original kydex sheath. Extra set of Black G10 handle scales plus hardware that I am including as a package (I will not separate so please don't ask! its new owner may decide to sell separately; they go for $25ish).

Price is $375 $350 $325.00 SOLD all inclusive and all in TYD (PayPal G&S). This FK was originally purchased from Nathan's table at Blade Show 2015 but I acquired it recently via the back channel purchase of a couple of older HT CPKs. Selling this one around my cost with all included. No trades. Domestic shipping.

Condition: This FK is as new as it came from Nathan's workshop. The prior owner never used it and I have not used it either. It shows some patina from just being stored and may also show some faint kydex related marks or very superficial scratch if held at a certain light but nothing immediately glaring. The original kydex sheaths for this pattern are just adequate but they're not great; they are a bit rattly! Any discoloration of the fasteners are consistent with the CPK used hardware.

Why the older style FK as opposed to the newer style FK, aka UFK? Some folks prefer the stealthier look of the original and the pry-bar like end piece.

Please note these photos are also part of the over all description:

Strict Terms of Sale:

1- Must be at least 18 years or older and must know your own State's, City's and Local laws with regards to purchase, transportation and handling of knives.

2- "I will take it" on here takes priority as far as time stamp goes, then followed by "start a conversation" which is the old PM routine. I will ask for your PayPal email address to invoice you, as I prefer this as opposed to you just sending me PP funds.

3- My decision as to whom I do business with is final as I may refrain from selling to anyone for any reason of my choosing plus I do prefer to do transactions with well-established paid members who are drama free. I don't hold onto my offerings for hours on end and if the transaction is not completed and funded within a timely manner, I will then have to move on.

4- The deal is truly a done deal when both parties are completely satisfied based on my thorough and honest description. You may contact me within 24 hours of the confirmed receipt of your package if unsatisfied (I was on vacation or any other delayed stories will not cut it. STRICTLY 24 hours from confirmed receipt!!!) but I will NOT accept any returns if the knife has been used, abused, dismantled or simply due to buyer's remorse (in case of a return request, the buyer will be responsible for fully insured return shipping fees plus signature and must return immediately in the same way the knife was received).

5- I will ship out with insurance AND I do require a signature upon delivery. I will not be held responsible in the case that you may need to visit your local USPS to collect the package because no one was at the address to accept delivery because of the point of delivery terms!

What is the difference between 3v HT and 3V Optimized Delta HT?

Best let Nathan explain it, but IIRC, he started rolling out his D3V HT circa the Spring of 2016 as he applied it to a new pattern which he called the Light Chopper aka the LC. Thereafter he applied the Delta to his Field Knives which were previously in his own tweaked version of the 3V, as compared to the cutlery industry norms when using CPM-3V.

From one of Nathan's sales posts back in May of 2016:

"Some thoughts about 3V and heat treat:

3V was originally developed for the tool and die industry for difficult stamping applications. The heat treat used in that application, which uses the secondary hardening hump, results in good toughness and abrasion resistance in that application and minimal part growth after heat treat, which is critical in tool and die. But, the carbon lean martensite, secondary carbides and retained austenite that decomposes in temper rather than a part of the primary quench all lead to issues with reduced edge stability in a knife edge. The thin geometry of a knife edge is not found in a stamping tool, and tiny areas of weakness become like the perforations in a postage stamp, allowing an edge to roll over, chip and generally behave "mushy". This sort of thing is so common in today's complex super steels and stainless steels that people just accept it as normal.

We have been tweaking 3V for cutlery for a while now, improving it for knives incrementally. There are a number of versions of these tweaks from me and other makers, but they can all be described as a "low temperature tweak". Basically, it involves avoiding the secondary hardening hump, and when done right reduces structures that are harmful to edge stability, but requires addressing retained austenite without a high temper. A happy side effect of leaving the carbon in the martensite is it doesn't tie up all the chromium, leaving 3V very nearly stainless.

All of my 3V over the years has been tweaked in one way or another.

Last year some of us running a tweaked 3V ran into some trouble with some that didn't respond like we expected. Those of us makers who test work from every batch noticed it. It required some re-work, but we addressed the issue, and it prompted us to try to better understand what was going on with the alloy and to pursue a fully optimized 3V. So, Guy Seiferd (Survive Knives), Dan Keffeler and I invested the time and resources to more deeply investigate variables and develop a more complete understanding of the alloy, its quirks, and develop an optimized heat treat protocol for it. This is one reason my output was low earlier in the year, because I'd spent a significant portion of the winter in R&D mode.

Our previous tweaks to 3V had already made it significantly outperform the industry standard, so the fully optimized version is not a night and day improvement over our previous work, but the difference is significant, so in order to differentiate between this optimized 3V and previous tweaks we are putting a Delta symbol with the 3V on the knife to denote change. Otherwise, it would be difficult to differentiate.
"

I have used blue color to highlight the conclusions :)

Someone messaged me privately asking for the extra set of black G10 handle scales which were originally offered as a set but are now EXCLUDED, so since I decided to part them out the revised price is now $325, all in with domestic shipping. Thank you.
