Old drill press pedastal for a grinder?

I have a couple of old Craftsman drill presses I recently picked up off Craigslist. I am using the parts from both to restore one.
What I am thinking is that I will use the pedestal from the other to mount my grinder to.
I am thinking of anchoring it to the wall for stability. Has anyone tried something like this before successfully?

MY KMG is mounted on a pedestal, but I think it may be difficult to mount a grinder onto a drill press base. can you explain how you will do this?

If your grinder is not really heavy, I'm sure that you will need to anchor it to the wall as you are contemplating. Otherwise, it will not be stable enough to do anything but very low pressure grinding.

Your pic is actually pretty instructive. Anchoring to the floor might be enough as the esteem grinder is heavy.
But it might not hurt to brace to the wall as well.
.....Now I find out about the hinged base-plate. That throws a monkey in the wrench of this idea. Hmmmm......

...Your knives are very impressive btw. I like looking through your gallery.

I got it mounted up and am actually pretty happy with it so far. Of course I know nothing much about grinding at this point so that isn't a huge indicator of success.
It does seem to stand well though, even with pretty good pressure. I will certainly go ahead and secure it to the garage wall though. It just makes sense.
Also have to figure out a mount for the VFD.

Really cool use of parts on hand! Does it get it to the right height for you?

Only quibble I can see is getting the VFD to a convenient height.

The height is adjustable from the floor to almost 6 foot, so it's good.
You are right, I have to figure out that VFD mount.

That isn't too far different than some of Ron Wilson's grinders are mounted. Bolt it solid and brace it well to prevent any movement or vibration.

Really nice to have adjustable height.

I'm glad that my photo was helpful to you. I never did bolt my grinder to the floor or brace it to the wall. It works well for me. The fasteners on the base are actually leveling feet. You may find that you won't need to fasten it to the floor or wall, but it couldn't hurt.

Your setup looks good. Great resourcefulness.

BTW, thanks for the nice comments regarding my knives.

Good luck grinding!!
