(OLD) FRIDAY SALE!

With the loading lag issues which this Site has been afflicted with for eons and the time out errors experienced by many, the FFS make it super heart pounding for the participants, hence the moniker of FFS!

I looked up Burke the winner and the guy's been a member since 1999, let me repeat: FOOQUING 1999 so I'd say that his placing with the aid of a huge horseshoe was well deserved. There was a time when some of those folks in the lower ranks were consistently the winners but no more a shoe-in with the page load issues, although The Wizard formerly know as the Tiger came pretty close. Seems like even for Nathan the thread creator, there was a significant lag just trying to unlock his own thread because at like 7 seconds past the 10:00 PM EST (maybe longer?0 the thread was still locked which means that it's not simply by hitting the unlock button and then voila!

I think the date of my membership on BF predates Spark's, as I recall. Now, that's pretty funny.

(Though I've known him all this time as well. And look what it's got me...🤣)

ETA: I just checked, and while it had been a later date, it now shows the same date as mine as his "entry on duty".

Casinostocks Casinostocks There was that other late to the game guy who came in and dominated for a while, even beating Tiger…forget his name.

There were a few who gave yours truly a good ol' fashioned arse kicking as I still have the bruises to prove my point! I used to be consistently in the top 5 back in 2016 when Nathan was just a wee nipper and when there were like 4 fastest guns!

I remember El Sparko Diablo from rec.knives back in the '90s. I only joined Blade Forums in 2007 because the trolls got so bad because of "Google groups" that a moderated forum was the only way. And now moderated forums seem to be becoming passé.

I begrudgingly joined a moderated internet forum. I was attracted here by Kevin Cashen. He was a refreshing fount of knowledge that, ironically, got run off by Karda here about 10-15 years ago for refusing to buy a membership. I think that was the beginning of the end of Shop Talk here. IMO. It's still a good place, but it used to be filled with real professionals and not so many hobbyists. What a waste.

I'm here to tell you kids, 20 years ago the internet was the wild west. Interesting times.

... I got my first email address in 1993. ncarothers@ncstate.edu if I recall correctly.

I wish I had a time machine

Yeah, I knew Spark, Turber, Josh Burbank, and all the miscreants from rec.knives back then...when all the Spyderco conspiracy theories abounded. LOL.

Kevin Cashen was one of the first Master Smith blades I acquired...and then gifted later on to my nephew.

When I was assigned a computer by my agency I remember bringing it home, early 90's as well, and telling my wife: "I don't know what the hell I'm supposed to do with this thing." The first thing I discovered was Quicken or similar. Then games. Then rec.motorcycles and knives etc.

Them were the days.

My hope is that the popsicle sticks are the same ones for the wood UF2 preorder!

They are. These are not cherry picked, it's from the first sheet of wood that we ran yesterday.

Well, they are cherry picked, but I cherry picked them at Blade show before everybody else got in the room because I have an exhibitor's badge.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

We have started the wood production process. I have to keep the sawdust out of the machine tool sump or I will spoil 200 gallons of coolant. I had to take an angle grinder to the Mori Seiki to open it up so I could bypass the door so that I could hold a shop vac to pull the dust off as it's machining. That's weird.

20 years ago/Time machine stuff…My wife and I still have AOL email addresses we use. 😂

I started off on an Engineering track in school. They taught a class my freshman year on this wild new software concept called …the spreadsheet! Ooh…aahhh!

Last one…my first real office job that led to my career involved writing macros for Excel. Microsoft offered help for FREE back then. I had those suckers writing code for me to make Excel do stuff that’s probably a button on the toolbar now. They would literally fax me custom macro code for FREE! Lol. I’m a reason they started charging by the hour.

But my real last and favorite one…when Shivs sat unsold on the Exchange for days…for $200! Oof

An AOL address went from normal ---> lame ---> cool again

I'm keeping my hotmail address

I still use a hotmail address...so does my wife. I refuse to change it to outlook or live.com

I had AOL for years...and still have an XP laptop downstairs but I only use chromebooks anymore.

I have about had it with Windows too. I think my next laptop might be a Chromebook although I'm interested in learning more about Linux too.

Edit: only the first post was off topic...

Chromebooks are great. (imho) They are easy to learn, stupid simple in most regards, convenient. I don't have high end requirements for computing, and they have been a godsend the past several years.

I have an HP currently...but had an Acer in the past which was also great.
