We're all gathered here to tell stories and pass knives around the campfire.

Now that the fire has become virtual the stories are text and pictures are what we pass around.

Like I've said before, I don't know how to do that computer machine stuff. I don't own a camera. Look at the picture that the "experimentalist" posted and picture it as having a blackened blade, a non shiny hilt and a bead blasted/dull grip. I parkerized it in an attempt to not think about it's sad history. Time, they say, has a way of blotting out bad memories and I thought a face lift would also help. Such is not the case. On a happier note, however, the mission saved a a number of good lives. Everyone got back safely and a bunch of commies died. My acft. did have a number of holes in it though.

Pictures are always very useful. Admittedly, it is very late in the game, but you never know if there is something unique enough about the particular knife to perhaps identify it's original owner. If so it can provide a hint for what may have happened to a long lost MIA.

There's a big difference between saying "It would be cool to see pics of the knife.", and saying "If you don't post pics you're a liar".

I wonder how many people in this thread have told stories or made claims on this forum without providing any proof (I remember a few). How would you feel if people openly suggested that you might be a liar if every time you posted a story or made a claim you didn't provide proof to back it up?

The OP isn't trying to sell anything, he isn't asking for money or a free knife, and he isn't claiming to be a Medal of Valor winner. If you don't believe his story, you're free to ignore him. But in my opinion, to publicly suggest that he might be lying, when his story can't possible hurt anyone, crosses a line. Where I come from, publicly accusing someone of lying, and publicly questioning their character in the process, is a very SERIOUS matter. And if a person makes such accusations and can't back them up with solid proof, then they face SERIOUS repercussions.

I like to regard Bladeforums as a gentleman's forum, where people can post without being called a liar if they don't provide proof of everything they say with pictures or video or notarized documentation. As long as I have nothing to lose by believing what the members of Bladeforums say, I choose to believe them. Or I simply ignore them. What I don't do is ask for proof and suggest they are a liar if they don't provide it.

At least that's the way I am now-

Years ago I participated in a thread where a person claimed that he came upon a car accident and used his folding knife to pry the car door open and free the elderly driver. I asked for proof and repeatedly questioned his story, as did others. I was being "Mr. Skeptical" and playing "Forum Detective" for my own amusement and at the expense of the guy telling the story. But in the end all I was doing was being a jerk. And after a lot of prodding by myself and other members, the guy contacted the driver and photographic evidence was provided that convinced many of the skeptics (including myself) that he was telling the truth.

But in my opinion, people shouldn't have to provide proof for everything they say on a gentleman's forum. Is it possible that he's a 14 year old telling tall tales, sure. Or maybe he is exactly who he says he is and every word he said is the truth. Maybe he's a guy who thought he'd found a friendly knife forum and decided to share a story, with no idea that his honesty would be publicly questioned if he didn't provide proof of everything he said.

Most people these days at least know someone with a cell phone with a camera in it.

My email is MilehighK5@gmail.com

If you find someone who can take pictures for you, have them send them to me and I will post them here for you. You can give that email to whoever you want.

If you dont want to I sure understand that. But if you decide you do, dont let not knowing how stop you. I dont mind helping at all.

Now scratch the living poop out of both sides, take a small round file and cut a 64th. inch slot on the left side of the shank, just above the Randall logo, and you'll have a pretty good idea of what it looked like when it was given to me.
Now keep in mind this had been taken off an NVA officer. Did the officer place the file mark on the weapon, or did the original owner place the mark there? I'll never know, but I'm sure Randall never sold that knife to a commie, pinko, toilet licking, son of a witch!

I'm having trouble visualizing how someone could "take a small round file and cut a 64th. inch slot" in the blade. A 64th inch slot would require that the file diameter be no larger than 1/64th inch, something in the neighborhood of the diameter of the wire of a small paper clip.

Can you elaborate?

Did you ever look at a pistol grip that's been checkered? As a gunsmith, I've done it lots of times!!!!

Gentlemen, let me assure you, I'm no TROLL. I've terminated more people than you will ever believe (no I don't have pictures) and I've worked with & for some of the toughest dudes that ever pooped between a set of fins. Being a man of honor and integrity, I came to you with a story of my past. You people are not worthy of my time or presence!

People who are what you claim don't brag like this^.

Being a man of honor and integrity, I came to you with a story of my past. You people are not worthy of my time or presence!

Yet here you are.

Call me a cynic, but you claim to be an old geezer that can't figure out how to post pictures on the interweb - but you figured out how to fly a helicopter and you use the word TROLL correctly. And boasting about terminating more people than others...

I do not trust people who poop with fins on. I usually wear flip flops when I poop.

Do you know what the bravest, most bad-ass, most capable men I've ever known had in common?

They never bragged about it.

Ever heard of Don shipley ?
He did these video's called phony seal of the week where he would bust phony's for breaking the stolen valor act.
He's an ex Navy seal who runs a navy seal buds experience camp for interested soldiers.
The biggest giveaway for phony's is bragging, and tattoo's.
People will often get a trident, frogman...ect tatoo because it's usually proof enough for most people.
Anyway this just made me think of his funny videos . Even after proving that they at the very most they got into buds but failed ( at the very least we're declined by the navy ) they always claim that their records are sealed.
