has anyone ever used the old white grinding stones for stock removal method?i got a big one thats in nice shape if if would work.

They worked when they were made, shold still work. I'm assuming you are talking about the old hand or treddle turned sandstone/limestone wheels used 75 years ago. Just remember they are slow, probably need to be used wet, and will be a test of your physical ability as well as your patience.

Enjoy!

PS something run off electricity is much faster!

If its flat and has been dress right it will work. Back in the early '70s that's the way we did it. And their was water dripping constantly on the stone. And went right to the KB8 and the 118 stones for fine-tuning. Back then I was working as a butcher in a slaughterhouse 1,800 Hog a day and some days I would work on the cattle kill floor and we would kill 400 head of cow's. When you work like that you need a great cutting blade.

thanx for the replies,im gonna hook it to electric a definitely use water.got to be better than filing it all.

I used to use 14" vitrified grinding wheels to finish and sharpen knifes. I still have the setup, but don't use it anymore since I got into a Bader BIII. The professional knife grinders use them a lot.
