old hickory for brush work

hey everyone. I am thinking of using an Old Hickory 14" butcher knife as the base for a custom machete. Any opinions or advice?

put a meaty edge on it, and it should be good to go. I've seen them chunk out when thinned

I know next to nothing about machetes but it sounds like a fun project with a low cost. Keep us posted on how it is going.

Not that big, but for years when I was younger my main outdoors knife was an OH 8 1/2" butchers knife with a pathetic homemade sheath.

Beat the crud out of that thing and it never blinked.
