Old Hickory hunter - first impressions.

Ok, so i use IMG thumb and it shows the image. I guess that logo wont be there if i pay for storage.....hmm, i will try imgur as well.

Anyway, this picture is of three 7" old hickory knives i altered. Top one just altered blade shape and sanded handle. Middle one i added a copper patination, and the bottom one i changed the scales to burnt oak with copper pins.

And back to original thread topic...………..these Old Hickory knives are cracking good. Everyone should have at least one IMHO. And the new hunter version with sheath is the icing on the cake :)
How do you add a copper patina? I’ve never seen that before.

I modded an Ontario Field knife made with 1095 steel for use in the kitchen. It gets daily use. Before using it, I'll run it over a steel. I only have to take it to the stones every 2-3 months. Use it for almost anything, the worse thing I use it for is batoning frozen hamburger chubs into smaller portions.

Good working knife.

I put a couple or three 1" x3/8" bars of pure copper into a litre of fresh ferric chloride. Leave it in there forever. After a few days stir up the solution and then dip your blade into it. Experiment with times, re-dipping etc as every time it comes out different. When you take out of the solution gently clean blade then give a very gentle polish to give the copper a shine. Must be a high carbon blade though......stainless will just laugh at you :-)
