Old Hickory slip joint

I love the overall design and materials they're using here... but my only gripe is the hole : (

can't they please just make a nail nick or a long pull type indentation???
that single issue will sadly keep me away from this

anyone else feel similarly?

I'm with you. The hole is the only thing giving me pause. I'll probably end up picking up one anyways. A cheap, USA made, carbon steel folder with walnut scales... I almost feel obligated to throw some support Ontario's way, lol.

It will be interesting to see what level of fit and finish these offer.

The OH series, while good knives, have relatively variable grinds and scales. They also don't come sharp.

I really, really don't like blade wobble in traditional knives.

I believe the hole in the blade to be an abomination to a slip joint. There, I got that out of the way. Feeling much better now. Lol! But really, wouldn't that be considered a modern slip joint feature? To me, that really doesn't match up with the Old Hickory name. There's just too much going on there that I don't like. Not excited. Now, if someone wants to make a USA made, single blade Barlow, and actually produce it, and not just keep it in the "vault", I would be for that 100%!

Interesting, I like the walnut and carbon steel. The opening hole is fine, I am more concerned with the engraved handle! Just leave it plain and simple…
If I can find one in a store where I can handle one to check for blade play I would give it a shot.

Maybe they could change the name to make it more accurate. Perhaps not “New Hickory”, but “Second-Growth Hickory” has a nice ring to it. Or “Premature Hickory”. Or “Recently Riven Hickory”…

I just hope they don’t choose “Tactical Hickory” or the “Hip Hickster”. Hey, I know, “Half-ass Historical Hickory”! For 40 bucks, I’d buy one just to say the name while showing it off to my friends.

Biggest deciding factor for me is how thick the frame is. Hope it is slim enough to be pocketable.
