Old Ibberson Smoker's (& Drinker's) Knife

Very cool knife. (The crown corks were called crown caps around here when my dad was home-brewing (always ales-faster than bottom-fermenting yeast)).

The bottle cap was originally known as a crown cork due to its replacement of the then common cork and resemblance to a crown. Manufactured by Crown Cork & Seal, which remains one of the world's largest beverage packaging companies. Look on a coke can you have about a 33% chance of finding the crown logo on it.

The other necessary invention was the bottle making machine. Until every bottle to be used sported an identical mouth, sized to fit the crown cap, you opened your beer with a corkscrew.

Another reason it was called a crown cork is that the bottle was sealed by a slice of cork glued inside the cap.
