Old knife maker garage sale find

Never used one personally, I think I remember reading that Scagel used them. I have seen one used as a drive wheel for a homemade belt grinder (Wayne Goddard's.)

I beleive I bought both of them in 1977. The square wheel takes a backseat to my bader most of the time but its a rare knife that doesn't see something done on the cone-loc drum sander. Ken.

My monster has a sticker that says "Square Wheel Belt Grinder, 7333 Empire Way So., Seattle 8, Wash." Zip codes started in 1963. So it's been around a while. I have modified it as per Ed Caffrey's website recommendation for slowing it down, and added a 10-inch wheel. It had a 3-inch wheel on it when I got it some years back. I doubt if I could pick it up today. Has a 1 hp Century 110 or 120 volt single phase motor on it.

Kc, that is it exactly Cone loc drum sander I have the same one you pictured. Do they still make them? It does look like a handy wheel to have, He had it mounted on its own motor on a cabinet that is full of them sharpening paper wheels and 20 or so of all kinds of buffing compound

reevestx, I tried getting a hold of one 15 or so years ago -no go. The reason I like mine so well is when I cut 9" discs from SC paper I end up with an inch and a half plus of scrap. I cut the pieces at 1 1/2" wide tape them together from the back and have a 27" piece of abrasive that fits the drum sander. Its driven by a 1/2 horse motor with a vfd.
AO doesn't work as well cause SC gives a much cleaner cut though shorter abrasive life,
not a big deal when its scrap.
Ken.
