Here's a shot for scale, you don't realize how tiny it is until you see it beside a 3.5" knife.

Hi Sheep Herder... this is an old time gentleman's knife and believe it or not, that tool is for cleaning up your fingernails after work and before you head to the speak easy ;)
Thank you. I was thinking it could have been something used for horse's hooves but I guess fingernails would be more appropriate for a pocket knife.

I seem to remember someone, was it you Charlie waynorth waynorth ? posting a picture of a very young lad with a Boy's Knife in his fist. A fancy boy's knife, in mother of pearl.

This one is 3 1/16 inches, and marked Chipaway Cutlery Co.
It should make for a fun project this weekend. I'm confident I can line up the broken piece of pearl on the pile side and fill gaps with epoxy. The pen blade is a goner, but I could re-shape a tip back on the main blade.
I don't see a lot of pearl handled jack knives, at least not as many as wood handled ones, and I think this one's pretty neat.

Do a search for horsemans knife and you will find folding knives with a hoof tool. Sturdy knives designed for the job. This is a delicate knife at only 2.75" closed.
Thanks

It was me!! At the Oregon show, as a joke, I had Bill Ruple convinced it was him as a kid!!:DBoy on a box.jpg
A few years later I played the same prank on Dave ( knowtracks knowtracks ) with this tough-guy shot!!:D:DBoy w cig and Knife.jpg

Any brief history of Challenge or where they were located? Nice knife so it peaked my curiosity. Thanks for the great pic.
Sorry took so long to respond, I honestly don't know much myself. This for the time being is my only Challenge. Bought from a craigslist ad no less lol. Charlie waynorth waynorth or Duncan @Campbellclanman or Augie Augie would probably know the most about the history of Challenge. I do know there is a connection with Empire, as mine has a Empire punch. Along with other clues led our resident experts to the conclusion that mine was made for Challenge by Empire! Interesting history indeed, and thats just the tiny tidbit I do know:eek:
;)

Acquired from a fellow inmate (you know who you are and thank you sir!) and is doing Fridays with me. I love a coping blade. The sunken joints and stag are nice and it is very sharp and easy to make so.
Ps does anyone know the correct term to describe the spring arrangement on this knife. Previously I thought it was called a split back whittler but have been set straight on this.
