"Old Knives"

Hey everyone- I apologise for the predictive text spelling mistakes when I post using my phone.
Yes - I agree whole heartedly with all about your Empire Display Charlie, I remember you telling us the story of the sale and the pick up, there must have been a massive mixture of emotions that day seeing them off.

Augie that’s the Ultimate Robeson pick up my friend.
Well done to you !!!!
Robeson did a Superior Job with their Bone there is no doubting that! The only way that Knife could be any better is if it had a Punch lol.

Here’s another of my fillers.... the best bone to stag match scales?? That I’ve seen for some while. It’s 3” 3/16s in length and someone may have liked rubbing it’s badge as the wear has smoothened out the middle portion of the mark side scale. It may have been rubbing up against a pouch liner for a long time too, who knows? Both blades are snappy, less so with the pen featuring half stops with lots of metal remaining. The main blade has reasonable play, as the bolster pin seems quite bent and the pen blade is still quite tight. The main gap in the spine is quite evident! It’s pinned shield is a beaut, it’s scales are mawvellous and these stamps put it in the 1910ish era. It was certainly passed with a coat or two of flitz and a I thought it would be a great chat piece.

A minty Rodgers arrived yesterday.

Thanks Gus, Augie, Duncan, appreciate the comments
Gus, it has a wee bit of tarnish on the springs, otherwise it's like new, someone kept it stored in a low humidity environment for many years
Augie, it's my 1st Rodgers, I'm thoroughly impressed with the workmanship !
Duncan, I love the 8 blade stamps on 4 blades! I'm planning on posting it in the Sheffield thread, I had a few minutes this morning to takes pictures and drop them in here before going to work.

I picked up a few old treasures recently and thought I would show at least one of them off. I am not too sure who made this one as the tang stamp is very hard to decipher - I might be able to clean it some to remove some of the surface rust though. What drew me to the knife was the really nice Stag on it and the relatively full blade - I don't usually see these old big blades with a ton of life left in them.

Aside from some wobble that I hope to fix or have fixed, this is a very cool knife and it is probably some of the nicest Stag in my collection now.

Dylan that’s a very nice old Rope Knife my friend.
Like you say that Stag is superb.

We have seen ( and I own a few) of C. Johsons Knives, like many English Knives the Stampings can be hard to determine dates ir time lines as often they can be re-used in different era’s.

Johnson’s early work had the “Western Works” included in the stamp as yours does, you can also see the Flag symbol ( if you open your knife - the same position of your photograph of the Tang Stamp - the Flag will be standing up correctly ) on its side and that would have had “ Flag Knife” stamped inside the Flag.

I used to think all C.Johnson Knives that sported “Western Works” were early - but they seemed to have used this at different times.
But there’s no doubting yours is early - and my friend like you say that Stag is first rate!!!!
