"Old Knives"

Just got this knife in the mail today, I have heard that Robeson and/or Boker made knives for this hardware firm: Whitehead & Hoag Co Newark NJ. Really heavy cattle knife with solid nickel silver scales, brass lined. Will oil it knock the rust off and clean inside the letters on the scales and that's about it. Shame about the chip in the punch, it has bluing still on it, doesn't look like a Robeson punch to me so maybe its Boker made knife by deduction.

Edit: I have mistakenly assumed this company was a hardware firm, turns out they were an advertising firm specializing in medals and such from more reasearch

A real tickle for me is seeing those stacked swages/long pulls like that when closed. Something almost art deco chrysler building about it. Lovely knife fella, make it sharp and throw it in a pocket.

Very nice Rob, like your Stainless Steel etched example. I have an earlier one with pick bone and a Stainless etch and another Stainless without etch. The earlier knife has a single S stamp on back tang and the other has SS.

Both excellent examples, John:thumbsup: That pickbone speeds my pulse up!
Appreciate the info on the S and SS marks, I love peachseed too but wish they had continued to use the pickbone as well.

One thing I like about that auction site is the unusual and rare knives that pop up every now and then, this R6032 Congress is one of them. I've never seen another, it is listed in the price guide but it's listed as black composition and this sure looks like checkered ebony, pretty sure I can see some grain. It has coined liners but on the top, also has very fancy well done bolsters. All blades are stamped. All blades have good snap and are close to full. I was surprised the listing did not have more interest.

I think you are right with the Ebony Augie matey, usually the Horn is Checkered - but as you say there is that definite grain on the sides of the Handle material- what a Sweet Knife! Nice grab- what does the Catalogue state as Handle Material choices Augie? ( Partially covered by Knife)

Edit: ooops - had another peek at the Catalogue- Composition! I have a Barlow where I am not too sure whether tit is Composition or Ebony- it does have the same "grain" as yours Augie- but I am thinking that the Composition may be possibly breaking down on the outer edges to the smaller degree where it shows this pattern? I just am not too sure with my Knife, but man this one you have is pretty darned nice Augie!

North Shore- This Knife I REALLY Like, Its a really cool knife, would love a more detailed look at that Punch for reference ( and learning).

Man if I saw that I would have pounced on it- really neat score my friend

Here are two Schrade Cuts I have found recently. Both are large single blade (English) Jacks at 4.5 inches closed. Both have peachseed jigged handles but both also have slightly different styles or examples of the peachseed pattern. Both have seen very little use or even pocket carry.

Augie Augie
That’s a sweet Remi surprise John !
The texture does look grainy with that neet diamond pattern and those liners…
also, those bolsters look like they’re 3-sided like a bolt pattern… very, very kool:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

It was a close call but the spear wins, the long pull and swedge put it a over the line by a nose. Well, for me.
Very special both of them Luger. Enjoy!

This 3” 7/8 STA-SHARP stockman is a real treat! All nickel-steel with a well preserved etch, clear stamping, and no cracks in the bone scales. Lots of peppering on the blades’ spines yet the wells are quite clean. Camillus sure made some knice snappy ones!
I know Duncan has a number of vintage Sears Roebuck examples…
enjoy my friend:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Blades look full and the original sharpening coils intact, what a sweet addition Unchained. How is it holding an edge for you? My similar 881 Schrade is a nice pocket companion...

Thank you kindly ed_ !
It just got here last nite and I don’t know if I’m going to use it! But I’ll tell ya… it’s darn fine in hand and beginning to be top tier in my similarly collected patterns in a very short time.
The edges are factory I believe as well… good eye !!

That’s a real dandy of an 881 :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I am enjoying Gus!!!!!
That’s a real nice one.
As you know Sta-Sharp was Camillus’s King if the Hill for Sears at one stage - yours being from that era.
Man That Bone is nice! Great score my friend.
These knives sharpen up beautifully Ed 😊👍
