"Old Knives"

Nice Herd of Jumbos, Augie! Nice spread of brands!
I hope you don't mind me joining your crowd!?!
I too, buy one when I see one! A lot of years have turned up 5 for me, some better treated than others! Top knife for comparison is a 3 3/8" E.WECK & Co, by Schrade Cut Co.
The Big Guys are, from the top, 3 Ulsters, a Cowing and Wilcox, and a Waterville.
Note the Pen in the C&W is as big as the main blade on the E.WECK knife!!

So one of the patterns that really floats my boat are jumbo jacks, very hard to find, in 3 years I've only managed to acquire 3. The latest is a Cattaraugus, fairly full main and a modified pen. I'm showing it with a Walden, an Empire and an Electric Cut Co bone handled knife for scale. The jumbo's start at 4" closed and seem to range up to 4 1/4" with a pretty hefty feel to them.

Great knives Augie and Charlie. I need a bigger screen on my laptop.

I've posted this before. This IXL is a little over 4 1/2. It says "Virginian knife" on the blade.

Old knife version of Wooden Wednesday... I happened to pick this one up the same day as my previous ebony Continental Cutlery coke bottle... this one is a Challenge Cutlery with tang stamp "Challenge" over "Cutl. Co." over "Bridgeport" over "Conn." My first Challenge Cutlery knife and I'm very impressed :) First thing I noticed when I opened it up was the awesome shield! For reference, the shield is 1-9/16" Long.

I've learned that it is pretty hard to find Cattaraugus knives with the tang stamp as nicely in place as this one you have Augie, most of 'em are pretty wore down from rugged use... that's a beauty!:thumbsup:

Wonderful jumbo jacks Augie, Charlie, Mike and Kevin!! Kevin that Challenge Cutl Co. Coke Bottle is great! That shield is outstanding:thumbsup: What are the wood handles—Cocobolo?

I agree with Lloyd on that Challenge shield. Great looking knife.

Thanks Duncan. I haven't had that IXL out in a while. It needs the mineral oil or Formby's lemon oil spa treatment.

Thanks Lloyd and Mike Robuck Mike Robuck ! Considering it's age I would think the Cocobolo would've darkened quite a bit by now so if I were to guess I would think it is more of a dark walnut wood. I'm far from an expert though ;)
