Old Leather and steel

Very nice! Marbles Woodcraft knives are getting scarce and I have not paid enough attention to them to tell you the models they made, though I know I have seen some with a longer blade that the owners called woodcraft.

Maybe sheathmaker can tell us for sure, but I would think neetsfoot would prevent drying, as would care to keep it dry to prevent rot. It does look to be in good shape. Especially so for an old user.

I wish I had my grandfather's or father's knives, the best I can do is leave my children and grandchildren mine. But a few I have are old enough to be my grandfather's. My sharpfinger, used this morning on a buck, has skunt more than I could cypher, and thankfully, I had the good sense to not put notches in it. Here, the proper term is skunt, paster tense of skint.

Refer to post #9 in this thread. Clean the handle thoroughly with saddle soap and water. Make sure all the dirt and grime build up has been removed. Light sanding is OK to smooth out any rough or uneven spots. Allow to dry completely (a full day or two) then apply the neatsfoot oil in LIGHT coats with a day or so between applications. Finally buff with a soft cloth.
