Old Maker New Knife

Welcome to Shoptalk
Thats a fine knife. I like the steel, grinds, handle fluting and pommel. The guard however is needing refinement to go along with the rest of your attention to detail.

here is another picture of the guard. what would you have suggested?

Thanks all for the comments..

Welcome to the forum! Beautifull dagger but i agree with Bruce the guard needs to be smaller from the ricaso out for this knife.

Hi Mike,
I just think the guard needs to lose weight. It looks out of proportion to the fine handle and blade. The extra time you spent on fluting the handle and turning the pommel and spacer, not to mention the attractive damascus and the well executed double grinds, it seems that you put a guard on it with very little thought and time spent. It still looks like bar stock. I think you could still reduce it in size and add some contours to it to make it belong. On a pretty dagger like this on it deserves a guard fit for a prince.

I think it is an awesome knife, but agree about the guard. It is well shaped and finished, just to big for the knife. It needs to be a bit more delicate . Maybe add a few file lines to it also too help it catch up to the class of the rest of the handle. It is a great job. Love the handle and the blade is perfect.
