This was a common way to carry a knife with the belt over the top. The advantage is the belt helps keep the knife in place and the sheath can be moved around to adjust for comfort. This style sheath fits nicely in the back pocket too.

Flat grind machine finished with forge marks on the flats
Curly maple handle
