Hi all, I'm Mike and I've been lurking around for about two years now and I've enjoyed every minute of it. I've been making knives since 1969 but never forged until this spring, what a rush. I'm in the south Indianapolis area and wonder if there are some experienced metal beaters in the area and if any of them get together? There's a lot more to forging than what I was doing and you can only learn so much from videos.Knife making is a hobby where there is always more to learn.

I'm in Virginia and I don't really forge....well, I beat metal but it doesn't resemble a knife except if you squint at it in a dark room but a big WELCOME!

Hello! and Welcome! I'm in Tipton County, probably about 2 counties straight up US31 from you. I'm no where near ABS Quality yet but I love to forge my own knives and other tools. I know a few other blacksmiths in the Kokomo Area. My advice on get togethers would be to attend local festivals,Rendevouxs, and S.C.A. events, you'll find several smiths in and around those parts. Also the first weekend of June every year the A.B.A. and A.B.A.N.A. put on a show in the Tipton Fairgrounds giveing many live Demo's and the chance to buy some Pocahontas Slack forging coal. along with Tools and other pieces.

Hello James, Welcome to BladeForums

With close to 40 yrs knifemaking experience you'll fit right in buddy. I'm sure you have all kinds of tricks to contribute.

Lets see some of that work too ;) We like.... no, we LOVE pictures here in ShopTalk, so don't be shy about showing some of your stuff.

Again, Welcome to BladeForums !

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Hope I'm able to contribute a little because i've learned a ton just reading the input here. I have wondered about something though, how does Raymond Richard's get that great taper on his blades? Does he preform those or is there a way to forge them out like that and if so where does all the extra metal go?
