People eat evrything, curry,rice,dhal, as well as fried food etc. with thier fingers in Nepal, So she will just tip her head forwards/downwards & place a small amount of food in her mouth as the nose decoration swings forwards.

Intresting kuk, would be good to have a true date on the photo.

My guess is that the nose jewelry is removable. The necklaces and other adornments come off, so why not the nose object?

Spiral I'm not real sure of how close a date you mean but the original link dates the pic from 1880. Actually the original link has several very interesting pictures.

I saw that date on it when I saw it bieng auctioned a month or so ago, It seemed to be a ebay sellers guess as to age without provenance though?
