Funny you just posted this. When you mentioned the R1123 last night it got me thinking about mine and I just (ten minutes ago) put it away after giving it a little mineral oil treatment.
Here's those pix I referred you to last night. Not in the condition yours is in, (it's a beauty), but I'm happy to have it. The springs are as strong as ever and the walk and talk something to behold. You're right, they should still make knives of this quality today.
(Even my 1890's vintage Russell Barlow still has good walk and talk.)
