One that I never quite figured out, when it is raining but the sun is shining, old timers will say that it means the devil is beating his wife. Well, I've competed in 4x4 trials, raced enduros and done a lot of MTB DH racing. That's why I've been broke for years and have seen quite a few ER's over the years. But it's true: It's better to be a racer for a moment than a spectator for a lifetime.

Wind southwest, fish bite best
Wind northeast, fish bite least

I've also heard it east and west, depending on where you are. When I fished in new england southwest winds were warm and did not kick up much of a sea, a land breeze. Northeast was the worst direction the wind could come from because it would blow for days and kick up high seas, and, if you can't get the boat out, the fish aren't biting ;) so its held true so far :D
