I just scored a fighter today made by Ray Laconico back in 2006 (I believe) and thought I'd show off some of my other blades from Ray. Not that he doesn't make great knives today but these old school knives just have a certain love in them ;). I have one other little edc that is not pictured.

The camp knife has a Kamagong wood handle and 1095 blade. All are hidden tang blades.

The little hunter has a bloodwood handle, 1095 and does have a faint visible hamon.

That's a Spyderco Military in the middle to compare for size. His linerlocks are REALLY smooth operators. The one with Koa scales is just the bomb, great knife and super light. The slip joints are kick ass working grade blades with perfect action.

Some artsy fartsy pics of his #7 liner lock. G10, Ti liners and O1 blade.

I like them too ;) But I sent him a couple questions several months back and never got a response, so haven't ordered anything else lately...

It's a camp type with a Kamagong wood handle (never heard of before or since but it's beautiful) and 1095 3/16 stock blade. Brass pin, guard and thong hole. Not sure what the spacer is, probably black paper micarta.

I like your old school blades too, thanks for sharing the pics :). The bowie is especially nice. One thing in common with all of Ray's knives - they are scary sharp , and isn't that what really matters when you buy a knife?

I don't want to say anything negative about Ray but he does seem to march to his own drum beat. He gets in a groove about one type of knife, masters that and moves on to his next interest. I don't think he is motivated by customer requests like other makers. Just my two cents which is probably worth as much as any one else's opinon - not much :p. I still like the man and the high quality product that he makes.

Campbell, I'm sorry I failed to respond to your questions. I don't know what happened but I certainly didn't mean to ignore you. I try to respond to all my emails (I get a lot of emails and PM's with a lot of questions) but sometimes I forget. I really hope to do business with you again.

Wow that black subhilt with the hamon is really old. That was from early 2006. It was a custom order when I first started selling knives. I haven't done a hamon in years! Thanks for posting the pictures.. It's really nice to see these:)

Pretty much everything you said is correct. However, sometimes I change to different types of knives because of sales. When certain knives no longer sell well, I go to something else. I was making and selling a bunch of linerless slipjoints earlier this year then sales slowed down so I moved on to linerlocks. Those sold really well for a few months then slowed down so I moved on. I still make slipjoints and linerlocks but only when someone orders one. Lately, I've been making small EDC size fixed blades which have been selling really well so I'll be making them as long as people keep buying them. I really don't know what's next..

As far as customer requests, you're right. I'd rather make what I feel like making but taking orders is necessary. Some orders I take and others I don't. If someone requests a knife that I don't want to make or that I don't have materials for then I usually don't take the order. There are also times when I have too many orders so I stop taking them until I catch up.

Mr. Laconico, I always have thought that your knives look great, both from a utilitarian standpoint and an aesthetic one.

It's nice to see a thread with such a time spread of a guy's work:thumbup::cool:.

I thought that fighter might spark a note with you Ray :). Thanks for responding to the post. Myself and I'm sure quite a few fans of your work appreciate your comments and insights.

Ray, in my opinion makes very nice Bowies, I now have three I just love the style that he makes them in.
I have found him a real gent to deal with, after my first purchase I wanted another one imediately, he got back to me straight away saying that he was not going to be making them for a while as he was concentrating on folders but he would contact me when he was going to do another one, I said fair enough, when you are ready contact me, which he did and I was very pleased with the result, as I said a real gent!! Oh! and by the way I love the fighter with the hamon, nice score.

Wow! That's a nice one! I generally like Ray's older work, but not because of any difference in the knives. It's that Ray is just as talented at making leather sheaths, and he used to make some of the best leathers sheaths of anyone I know to go along with his knives. Until he switched to kydex (Blah!). So I always have an eye out for one of his knives if it comes with a nice leather sheath.

That's funny because now I no longer do kydex, only leather:D

Amazing collections! Thank to all for sharing.

There certainly is "something for everyone" in Ray's knives, many models, variations, etc.

Andrew - that one knife with your Glock, is that a standard model?

Here are my 3, everyone of them beautifully made and I will be adding more to the collection!!
