I was cleaning up my original aus-8 Endura and Rescue today, and decided to snap some pictures of them. They both need a good sharpening, but after cleaning them up they still open smoothly and lock up securely with almost no blade play. Not bad for a plastic-handled folder that's over a decade old, and was an EDC for the better part of that decade.

Let's see your old school spydie users. I know someone's got some good shots of something older than an Endura from the 90's that's still in working shape today

I have not had it near as long as the knife has been around but I have an AUS-8 plastic clip Rescue. I have had it a little less than a year and used it some now it is in an EDC bag that goes with me in the car in case I need to use it for its name sake.

These still see some use. PE Mariner, slab-side (first generation) Police and uncoated Aluminum Police.

The old AUS-8 Dragonfly in this pic has seen a little use. ;)

I got to get some pics together but I am on old school spydie lover.
Have a micarta goodard from the late 80's, a frn orange rescue, a howard viele, and a chinook 1 that all see regualr pocket time.
great idea for a thread.
cheers,
Patrick

No pics right now but I have a Generation 1 Delica I have had since 95 and it is still my edc...I just sent it in to them to put a new edge on it...yup didn't sharpen it for over 15 years. I love their products. My Centofante 3 is a close second.

They say the Endura2 is the steel handle so I guess these are the Endura1 (AUS8) and Endura3 (ATS-55).

Here's the E3 and the Orange Military in comparison.

I love those old spydercos and the old rescue knives. I was at a gunshow back in the mid 90's on the last day of it and picked up the last 3 spyderco rescue knives for $75.00. $25.00 each was a great deal. I'll have to get some pics of my older spydercos.

I have some extremely fond memories of some of my older Spyders. Some of them I still use. My current 2 EDCs are an older 440V, SE, Golden CO USA Earth NATIVE model. My other EDC is an older G-10 Harpy, ATS-55, SE model. Both blades serve me extremely well. So I have the luxury of saving my really cool Spyders for a later date.

My very favorite all purpose utility knife by Spyderco wasn't even designed for that use at all. But my fully serrated AUS-8 Catcherman model is so superb in the kitchen and for meat processing that I am feverishly trying to find a couple of back up units for that model.

Also another great kitchen blade I just recently got from a great Spyder brother is another FB-05 Temperance 1 model. I have 2 of those as all purpose fixed blades. The SE Temp 1 is one of the very few fully serrated outdoor knives ever made.

Hey I love the new stuff too. But my philosophy has been for years>> "if it ain't broke then don't try to fix it" also I've always believed in the short cliche "Whatever Works" >> and if it does work correctly then don't mess with it ;)

I'm getting all of my Spydies together for some pics, I have the things strewn all over the place. Once I find them all I'll post up some pics. I was going through my collection and found my Gen1 Rescue and my old FRN Walker.

Both of those knives have seen some serious duty. The Walker in particular. The blade on that thing looks like it's been stuck in a vise and bent back and forth a few times. It also has a couple good chunks taken out of the blade, from when I thought it might be a good idea to cut through barbed wire with it. This was when I was just learning what knives could and could not do. That Walker did a lot of things I would never consider trying with much more heavily-built knives today. I lost that knife in a field a while back, and didn't find it for a couple months, so it sat out in the rain quite a bit. When I found it, it cleaned up just fine. What a wonderful knife! The blade action and lockup are still just as smooth as the day I bought it.

I have one of the new ZDP/ CF Walkers on order, it should arrive tomorrow. I can't wait to compare the old and new versions! The Klotzli Walker has been one of my grail knives for many years, this may be as close as I ever get.

I don't know about you but old beater spydies look cooler and more appealing to me than brand spanking new ones. I have a beater Co-pilot from 1984. Still works perfect as back in 1984. Mind you it needed a bit of sharpening with my Lansky stone but after that it sliced boxes into feathers.

Thanks for the great pics guys. I don't doubt that the new versions are better, but those are knives that made history. :D

Just got the top one back from Spyderco sharpening, the other I just use the sidewalk. (not really)

Hey Coho you really hit the nail on the head with that model. I carried and EDC'd one of those Renegade models you put the pics up on. If any 2 older Spyders should come back with either ZDP-189 or maybe S90V it should be the Renegade model and The C-01 Worker model.

I carried my Renegade for a little over a year before I started carrying my most beloved C-44 big Dyad model. I dearly loved the overall design of the Renegade. If there is any full sized, big bladed Spyder I want most to EDC other than the Military model it would definitely be the Renegade.

You know the wierd thing is that I still carry that Bobbitt Clipit when I know its gonna go rough in the yard. I should probably send it in and get it made into a longhandled Blackhawk butt it still serves albeit abbreviated.

+1 on a Worker with ZDP, S90V, or CTS-XHP!

My old Endura and Merlin knives. Spyderco put a new clip on the Merlin after the molded clip snapped off. When it happened to the Endura I just followed suit with a generic one I got online.
