Old school spyderco users

I've been using Spydies for a while. Here are my earliest...

That is an ATS-55 Harpy that I got as a birthday present about 13 years ago. My very first Spydie :-) It was also my first high quality higher end knife.

My dad gave me the Mariner, which he owned for a while. The steel isn't listed but I believe it is Gin-1. I had the outer "tip" serration ground off completely because it was already in bad shape and it looks better now that's off.

I bought the Aus-8 Rescue on ebay about a year ago just because I LOVE the aggressive serrations it has. Like I really need to justify buying a spydie :-p

Does this count?
I actually got it in a package deal as a extra throw in recently. It makes me want to find a nice shiny new PE Hunter now.

Yeah and if they bring that Catcherman back in either H-1 or VG-10 I want them to use that Yellow handle again. The Catcherman was truly a much overlooked model. Probably one of the most functional hunting, fishing & kitchen knives Spyderco ever produced. Oddly enough I liked the AUS-8 versions of the Catcherman very well. That blade steel works good with kitchen chores.

Here's one that is almost as old school as you can go. Slab-side C01S Worker with no steel mark, but it has the 3 screw clip.

Yab,

That's a great worker. I should get myself one soon here being the first Spyderco knife they ever made. I really like the C01. Just gotta find one and be willing to pay. :)

To everyone else,

There's a lot of love in those knives.......thanks for sharing. :)

Here's the two screw version. I think the story was the clips would work loose and the fix was three screws. Got this at the San Diego County Fair way back when from Golden Promotions who put on a pretty good booth show with the Sharpmaker. The blade on these is pretty good for working. The handle ergos left a bit to be desired, but that was fixed with the Endura/Delica models that followed. This one spent most of it's life in a tool box in the back of my truck.

HOLY POPCORN BATMAN!!!! WHERE IN BLUE BLAZES DID YOU SCORE THAT "2 SCREW" C-01 WORKER MODEL????????!!!!!!:D:cool:

Not too many of those ever show up on any of these forums . Do you remember what year it was when you got that blade?

I've said it at least 200 times>>> If there is any older Spyder model that deserves to come back with a ZDP-189 blade it's the C-01 Worker model. That was the one that launched the greatest production knife company on the planet  And it would be apropos for it to reappear with a super alloy blade steel. I doubt if many will disagree with me on that one.

Way back when. I remember they were there every year for a long time. I found this old price list, so I'm thinking it was probably 1982, the SD County Fair was in early July and I think the Worker was introduced in ~1981. Apparently there are right and left hand models for the collectors to chase down.

For a little perspective, here's the January 1982 cover of Byte magazine.

can spyderco sharpen the serrated edges?

Yes of course they can. They are the ones who gave birth to them for crying out loud :D

And you can too with the right equipment. I personally recommend the Spyderco 701 Profiles. You can also use the Spyderco 204 Sharpmaker.

Seriously serrated edges and especially Spyderco's Spyderedge is not that difficult to sharpen. There are scores of videos on YOUTUBE and other places and there is tons of info on the internet.
