Old Schrade blows a hole in this weeks budget...

What's BRL?

Also, I'm pretty sure autos under 2" are legal in CA. What's the blade length on these guys, I wonder?

The main blade on the larger model measures 2 5/8", the main on the smaller model is right at 2" on the best of mine.

Here's a shot of all the vintage autos I've been able to accumulate over the years

If that's the brand of the stag-handled "Springer", I have what's left of one. It's beat up pretty bad.

Yep! They came up in the GEC/Schrade auto thread. User Schmalmaus did a video review of them. Really old design.

bwperdue,

I apologize for the digression below, but you appear to be challenging my statements.

1. I agree with your quote from Abe Lincoln.

2. "BRL" is Bernard Levine. I know absolutely nothing about California Law or switch-blade law in general. I have had cordial relations with Mr. Levine. In a long (Paid in advance) Phone call, Mr. Levine became quite exercised about not wanting to discuss or help me to find old Schrade or Presto autos. It is possible that I misunderstood. It is possible that he was only referencing Federal Law and Inter-State shipment. I thought he was too upset to allow further detailed discussion. I will accept correction. He also suggested that new collector interest will center on Tactical knives. That does not in any way imply that he has lost interest in traditional cutters. It was a passing and very helpful comment for me. I have been stunned at the appreciation in some of my tactical looking knives.

3. I am certain that Knife Laws are selectively enforced in many States. I was invited to a Police Station in Chicago to discuss a Warrant before Metal Detectors. I was Arrested, Booked, Fingerprinted and Jailed pending Bail for having an AG Russell One-hand knife in my pocket.

BTW - As an armed and uniformed Cook County Deputy Sheriff, I was in charge of week-end Security for Mayor Daley's County Building for many years prior to being jailed for knife possession in the same city.

Jack,

Thanks again for the great show.

Mike,

I've not had any personal contact with Mr. Levine. His work here has been very generous to us all. I simply didn't understand the abbreviation.

Please check your PM, as I will send you the CA penal code regarding auto knives, so as to not clutter this thread any longer.

Finally, to end on a positive note, I agree with you that, in too many places, knife laws, or interpretations thereof, are selectively enforced.

Edited for succinctness and tone. :)
