Don't know if this belongs here, but here goes. My daughter discovered an old knife in the hayloft of the barn of my Dad's house. House is CA 1830's, so who knows how old it is. The knife itself can best be described as a poor condition bone-handled "jacknife" with an awl, blade, and what looks like a little pair of pliers at the end. On the blade, which appears to have been shortened (broken off?) is "RADE HHH MARK". I think the SCH are missing where the blade is broken off. On the handle of the pliers is L.G. (or maybe L.C.) LEWIS PATENT. Knife has no value, just curious as to its age.

Hi Fritz, and welcome. All that's missing off that blade is the "T" for "Trade HHH Mark". It was a very common plier knife made by the Oscar Barnett Tool Company in New Jersey during the early 1900's. The tang , or base of that broken blade should either read - O. Barnett Tool Co, or J.C. Lewis Pat. Nov. 20 1900 as the plier handle does. There may be a hoof hook that pulls out from the opposite side of the knife that the blades are on. This also serves as the other handle for the pliers. Nice find.
