Old Spyder Classics: Hidden IN Plain View

Barman you got my "envy meter" going crazy like a guy lying on a polygraph machine :D The Spyderedged C-50 has been one of my grails for a user to carry for some time now. Hold on to that one because I look for all of those Centofante models to acrue some serious price tags.

The more I look at that C-25 the more I want a set of those as well. Great collection Barman

Unfortunately I've been thinning out the collection and the picture shows less than half of my original Centofantes. I'll probably let these go at some point except for the Memory.
Give me a buzz when you're ready. ;)

I definitely will and I'm going to renew my Gold Membership I let lapse this past fall when I got busy. But yes indeed I'll sure offer up something worth while but we can chat about that later. Again the Spyderedged C-50 was one of the handiest folders I had when I used it and I should have my skull examined for trading it to begin with.

Also speaking of Centofante that "memory model" that Spyderco is selling is also a very nice piece. We are starting to see some of these premium knife designers pass on :( We've seen Phil Boguszewski, Bob Lum, FRank Centofante and Bill Moran just to name a few that have all passed away in recent times.

I should have my Gold Membership restored with the week so when I do I'll PM you.

Well, I can see how these classics, at least for me, have escaped my notice. As a die hard plain edge user, any knife with a serrated edge, even partial, is ignored by me. Having said that, I by no means think those knives suck.....I just would never consider them....classic or not.

The Memory, holy crap its awesome!! I love that handle design, overall size and blade shape so much. The only thing holding me back getting it is....price. Wow! That's a lot of scratch for a VG-10 blade. I'll get one anyway, just sayin'

I sure miss the C03 Hunter. Well, I guess I still carry one on occasion and have a couple salted away.

For me, it's a great utility design and would love it to be recreated with updated materials and blade steel. I like the straight design of the blade as opposed to the big leaf shape which seems in vogue now days.

This was the second Spyderco patten, after a Standard with the punched out clip, I purchased back in the day and still love it.
.

I bought a Hunter brand new when it first came out, and I loved it as well. Easy to sharpen with the softer G-2 (or Gin-1) steel. When the TSA in Hong Kong took it from me (my mistake) I was devastated, but moved on to the Stretch ZDP-189. It's similar to the Hunter, but on steroids: better handle, better blade steel, lighter, and easier to open with its bigger Spydiehole.

As much as I liked the Hunter, Spyderco has evolved and I wouldn't be interested in buying another anymore.

Hey I can appreciate where you're coming from as far as the newer models being made with newer/better blade steels and better construction overall. But I still like many of the older models from strictly a design standpoint. Which is why I jump on Spyders from that era in Sprint Runs which are normally made better than the model was the first go-around. One prime example is when the C-60 Ayoob was re-introduced in a Sprint run with a G-10 handle instead of the Almite handle the first Ayoob had.

And the Sprint Run of the C-54 Calypso model certainly had a lot of improvements over the original, late 90s edition of the blade. I'm always up for improving the past models in Sprint Runs.
