These blocks were cut from an old redwood burl I got on trade from a local knifemaker. He had this burl stashed in his garage for more than 25 years and never got around to cutting it up.
When he brought it in it looked like this.
The outside was crusty and gray. It was dry as a bone from being inside his garage so long. He said it looked like this when he got it so no telling how old this piece is. I was encouraged because it seemed to weigh a lot more than normal redwood burl.
The same day I got the burl, I started cutting it up.
Really nice tight burl figure and noticeably harder and heavier than normal redwood burl.
This is natural redwood burl. It has not been stabilized.
