+1 for the old style, they take up much less room in the drawer...

Collectors found it difficult to open and close the thing without denting it or even ripping it.

Exactly. I have several new ones, where I asked for wood inlay inspection, that have ripped boxes. Very disappointing to get that torn box before you even open it. Going to a style like the "old" one would prevent that.

The first old style boxes did accommodate the B-day card pretty good.
