Not too long ago, I received an "old-style" (clip-point) Pioneer in a trade. At first I didn't like it for a couple of reasons...First there is no pocket-clip. Second, there is a steel lever up at the top of the blade pivot end, (rather than the plastic sliding "button" that's in the flat of the scale), to un-lock the blade.

Now that I have had a chance to "play" with it awhile (next to my Pioneer II), I have found that I DON'T really mind not having a pocket-clip on this "smallish" folder, and that I REALLY LIKE this "old-style" steel blade-release lever BETTER than the "newer plastic "slider", as it is much smoother, and more "positive", (not to mention that it's "out of the way" of the grip).

I kind of wish REKAT would go back to this "old-style" un-locking lever, for both its' location, and smoothness.

I agree to a certain extent. I have a clip point old school Pioneer and a Pioneer II with a swept point. The lock is a nice place on the old ones. If you use folders really hard, I can't think of a more out of the way place to put the lock! I think there is a definite step up in quality with the Pioneer II, though. Actually, I am about to post a review of my new one, with a Mike Sastre sheath, and I plan to compare it to a couple other REKAT folders I've owned, so zip over there to see all my impressions.
