Old surface grinder worth picking up to play with?

I'd ask them if they have the other pieces.

I'd say the reason it's so cheap is because the table / carriage is missing

Yeah notice a few things not there and wondering if it would be worth trying to get it back together again.

With the parts that are missing I would wonder about the motor and spindle bearings. This one is a belt drive.

Yeah was hoping to pick it up to play with more then use since I dont forge yet but the more I look at it the more I think it i a lost cause.

Yeah you could never get that running for less than what you could buy a working unit for.

Especially since most of the key parts are missing, and you can usually find a good used one for $500-$1000. Surface grinders are expensive machines new, but they don't have the resell value of mills and lathes, since most hobby shop guys don't have a use for them, like we do.
