Old Timer Fixed Blades

"Two of the three, oddly enough, were also the favorites of their designer, Henry "Uncle Henry" Baer. Those two were the 15OT Deerslayer, and the 152OT Sharp Finger. Both were 1095HC Carbon steel, and both had sawcut Delrin handles. "

Codger - would a 150T Deerslayer, purchased in the early 80's, also be 1095 steel?

Yes, most likely so. Since the 15OT pattern knives were discontinued in regular production after 1997, that was likely just before the general switch to stainless in the OT line. Some 15OT's were ordered for Sears and other private label companies, and made for Ducks Unlimited etc in stainless earlier .(and right up to the end), but it would be uncommon to find a regular Old Timer in other than 1095HC. I have one or two of those, and one in particular seems to have been made for SFO's (or warranty replacements), then etched with the Schrade 15OT stamp after assembly. Generally, tangstamps had to be applied to unassembled blanks. So yes, as a rule, one from the '80s would be 1095HC. Look for pepper spots of discoloration along the exposed tang if you don't want to test the blade.

That's good to know and thx.

It's 20 years and still going strong. Due to inexperience, I had a difficult time keeping it sharp but have rectified that with a sharpmaker - now carry it more often than my newer belt knives. Love the design and now the sharpness to fully utilize.
