hi guys.
i posted this in the wrong place, and it was suggested i try here.

i came across an old timer a couple years ago at a flea market. it's a beast, 5.25"closed, 4.25" blades, nearly 9.5" open. it's a "folding hunter" pattern, marked 25 OT. i don't think they're still made, but i haven't been able to learn much about it.
does anybody know when it was produced, or perhaps when it went out of production?

thanks for any help.
peace.

I hope you bought it.

The 25OT Folding Hunter (big 2 bladed sucker!) was made from 1964-1993 Came with a sheath. From 64-74 and 1976-89 it had a lanyard hole.

Debbie I know you can a lot of color to this posting!.

Well, let's see.... I can add that the last suggested retail in '93 was $19.95, and it and all of the others of the same pattern (125OT, 225OT, 127UH and 227UH) are among the "most wanted" of all of the Schrade regular line items. They are tough to come by, because as soon as they are spotted, people scoop them up.

The 25OT was also known as the Alaskan Old Timer, because for a time, from '76 until '78 the blade was stamped "Alaskan Old Timer Hunter".

oh, i definitely bought it. $15. sheath is in really nice shape also. sharp as the dickens when i bought it, looks to have never been sharpened, but i [expertly] touched up the edge (to minimize a couple tiny nicks in the main blade) and now it shaves. walks & talks loud & strong.

this one has a lanyard hole, so it is within the 64-74 and 1976-89 range, but no "Alaskan Old Timer Hunter" blade marking, so i guess it was not made in 76-78.
by process of elimination... could be from 1964-74 or 1979-89.

i can't see any other distinguishing characteristics, but i'm not that well-versed in the schrade family lineage. is there anything else i should look for?

thanks a lot, guys!
peace.

If it was stamped "Schrade Walden", that would put it in the earlier range. If it is stamped "Schrade" it will be after 1973. That's about all the obvious identifiers I can think of.
