Mods....please move if necessary. Posted here because it is an old time slippy in need of, what, hopefully is a tweak.

I purchased this Old Timer 8OT with match strike pull off the bay. Not sure of the year, but I believe this to be new old stock. after careful inspection, I would have to say this knife is in near mint condition....but there is a flaw. In the pics below you will see that the scale (bone) sit proud above the bolster up top. I can make it relatively even if I push the scale (down) while I am pushing up on the bolster, but it goes back to off skew. The pic I don't have, but will load tomorrow is a top down bolster shot where there is a little gap page/irregularity.

Really... the question is ...... is there a guru of trad repair...or, better yet Schrade OT repair? I very much like this knife...maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist, but.....I'd like the knife perfect at the start of it's journey.

Thanks!

Peter

I am not familiar with match strike pulls on old timers. That said, assuming it's ok on the bottom side, that's a pretty simple grind and polish fix. you could probably even scrape/cut the delrin (plastic) even with the bolster and liner using a razor blade. Brasso or a metal polish should shine the delrin back up if you don't gouge it too badly. go slow, you can't put any back.

It appears to me that the scale is just wide at that point, since the bottom edge appears to be even with the bolster. You could just very carefully sand/file the top edge down to fit. However, if it hangs out from the liner, then sanding it down will not work. Congratulations on a great knife. Hope you can get it up to your needs.

Blessings,

Omar

Thanks guys! The scale does move to even up and down with coaxing. This is an alignment issue rather than just too much scale. I'll add some pics tomorrow am that may clarify the issue. It's such a great knife...I'd like to get it in the hands of a trained professional, unless there is a homegrown fix.

Thx,
Peter
