Old Timer score

Tonight was the end of the Ulster Old Timer auction, a set of three knives and tobacco tin from the Schrade warehouse collection. Don't know if any of you saw this before or not.

The auction number was: 6598410642

I noticed from the photos that only two of the knives are actual OldTimers. The third knife is an Ulster and appears to be the same pattern as the tobacco advertisement, but the stockman in the auction doesn't have an OldTimer shield. I adjusted my bid accordingly and still won the auction for much less than I expected.

Suprisingly, a 1984 Anniversary Old Timer sold for around $225 this afternoon. I never even bothered to bid on that one...

Best Wishes,
Bob

Congrats Bob!
Nice set of knives. Looks like there may still be tobacco wrapped up in the paper........probably a little dry by now! :D

Enjoy your new knives.

I found a few today also; a 77OT muskrat NIB for $27.49, a good price since the 2002 price was $34.95, also got an Imperial Barlow in clampack for $6.95. That is the first one I have found new.
I also found a 108OT for $16.88 and a 807UH for $19.98. Both were display knives, but are in near new condition.

All in all it was a fun day scrounging around old hardware stores. I had to go to the big city (Portland, OR) to have 2 stitches take out if my shoulder from my arthroscopic surgery. So I scrounged around all the way home. When I got home I was putting some laundry in the washer and reached in and got my little finger caught between the washer tub and the shell of the washer. On reflex I jerked my finger out and then had to go to the Urgent Care and get 6 stitches in my little finger. :o
Oh well, as mama-san used to say; "Some day you get water buffalo, some day water buffalo get you." Either way, I guess it's a lot of bull! :D :D

Those are some good scrores, especially the 77OT. Can't recall what I paid for mine, but I'm pretty sure it was more than that. My Imperial Barlow was found alongside the highway and looks like it was run over by a semi. :D

I had stitches too, about 30 years ago. Don't recall how bad it sucked, but it did suck.

I was the leading bidder for most of the auction on that set, but dropped out when the bidding went over my limit. I am very glad to see that someone from this forum obtained them and will keep them together. The 50OT was, I think, indeed an Ulster Old Timer, though bolster stamped Old Timer (where "Barlow" or "Ulster" is usually seen) instead of shielded. Perhaps you can post better pictures when the set arrives. Rich has posted a picture of this one before I think.

Congratulations!

Well, if $27.49 is a good score, I guess I did very good. Picked up 2 NIB 77OT's for $16.77 each at a store closing in my area. I was like a kid in a candy store going through the Schrade display. Some we're older stock with carbon blades, (a couple 152's & a 158) so that was nice to see. I think my final tally was about 10. Gotta love days like that.

Just checked my records, I paid $30 for my 77OT. That's lower than the original msrp, but not what I'd call a bargain. I mean, you really SCORED! Not just the price either, but actually finding some for sale; 2002 was the last year of production.

The Camper is clearly marked OldTimer on the shield, and the Barlow is marked on the bolster. It's the third knife (I guess it's actually the middle knife in the group photos) that doesn't appear to be an "OldTimer". The shield is unmarked and I can't quite make out the bottom part of the tang stamp. I'll be happy to post a picture of the knives when they arrive.

I figured someone from these forums was also bidding, but since we all use different names... No hard feelings I hope. I'll take very good care of them, and certainly keep the set together. I wonder if the last-second bidder was one of us? Obviously someone who had been watching and waiting. It still closed far below my maximum bid.

This is the knife (photo stolen from the auction) that kept me from bidding higher:

I found them because I wasn't actually looking for that particular model. Isn't that the way it usually works. :D Congrats on your recent purchase.

Congrats, Bob! Good win.

Note to you guys seeking a prince albert / old timer can... check out antique stores. Most of the ones I have purchased were in the $5.00 range. Been my experience that the shop owners don't put a premium on the 'Old timer' marked tins as we do.

Good treasure hunting reports from Dale and Mick57 as well!

I saw this particular auction and I was tempted to bid but didn't. Excellent set! It went for less than I thought it would too.

I didn't realize that the 77OT went out of production in 2002. I bought one for $12.50 not too long ago. The last time I went to that hardware store, just a few days after my last purchase, there were significantly fewer knives in the case. I'd better get back there!
