Modern things that are nice are Velcro, polar fleece, and LEDs.
.....and Duct Tape

I agree, although I dont like velcro and polar fleece(it melts )
But LED's are great as, of course, is duct tape(although I usually carry the black electrical tape.

The main reason why I prefer trad gear(of course I although use some modern stuff), is that to me it seams, that the modern stuff i see in the stores derogates the users ingenuity and skill(which I think are way more important than gear)

I would say both. There are times I prefer to go hi-tech when I'm concentrating on weight issues.

There would be times where I'd prefer a much simpler basic style mostly just to get away from the hi-tech.
