Old vs new buck 110

Yes, carrying two or even three knives to cover all the possibilities is wise.

I always have the 112 and the Swiss Army Knife.

I'll add a fixed blade if anything unusually tough is in the wind.
 
I was thinking they were just as good to if anything the blades are better on the new ones because they have the Paul bos heat treat.

I guess that brings up the question of how old is new. I believe Paul Bos's relationship with Buck started in the late 50's and full time since since I don't know when. Someone else here may know that timeline a little better than I. For sure he was around in the 440C days.

As I recall, Bos did a lot or most of the Buck heat treating since the beginning of his relationship with Buck......it probably increased during the 60s and 70s and the big change was in 1980 when he started doing his heat treat IN HOUSE at Buck.

So yeah, the Bos heat treat is nothing new.
 
Yes I’m thinking the improvement was partially because of the edge x2000 grind and thin hollow grind and that coupled with the already great Bos heat treatment is what made the difference. Blade steel is only part of the equation. Heat treatments are only part of the equation. You can have the most ideal steel available with great heat treat but if the grind, edge , and total geometry isn’t right It won’t perform to it’s potential. Also individual sharpening skill also comes into the equation.
