old wives tale?

Here have this clock! It will make you feel trapped in a world where life isn't measure by living but rather gears regulating seconds, minutes, and hours. Hope it doesn't make you feel too depressed!

What about watches, though?
 
I just bought, and gave, my wife some kitchen knives.
If I had known about this superstition, I would have bought them along time ago!:D
